Class 1 and Class 2 Championships set for Thursday

Lee?s Summit Christian (23-8) and New Bloomfield (18-4) will duel it out for the Class 2 Championship on Thursday at 1:00 pm, while Liberal (20-4) and LaPlata (20-2) both came from behind to advance and will battle for the Class 1 Championship at 4:00 pm.

Class 2

Lee?s Summit Christian defeated Clever HS (17-11) 12 to 2 on Wednesday. Summit Christian?s starting pitcher Matthew Verschelden was perfect through the first four innings while Summit Christian built their lead.  Verschelden would end up throwing a 2-hitter for the Eagles, highlighting the big win.

New Bloomfield advanced to the championship game by defeating Charleston (16-9) 4 to 3.  In a drama filled game, New Bloomfield broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth inning, and picked up another run in the sixth to go up 4 to 1. Charleston would make it close in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs, but New Bloomfield would hang on to win by picking a runner off of first base with the tying run on third.

Charleston and Clever will play at 10:00 am on Thursday for 3rd place. This will be the last game for Clever?s head Coach Marty Little. Little will be looking for his 300th career win.

Class 1

Liberal knocked off Oran (23-3) 6 to 5 to advance to the championship game.  Down 5 to 4 in the 5th inning, Liberal rallied to pick up the win off of a 2 RBI single by Dylan Massa.

LaPlata defeated St. Elizabeth (14-6) in their last at bat, by a score of 10 to 9.  Down to their last out in the top of the 7th inning, Taylor Wheeler came through with a 2 RBI single putting the Bulldogs in the championship game.

Oran and St. Elizabeth will play Thursday at 7:00 pm for 3rd place.
