No. 9 Chatham Glenwood (15-2) had a fun northbound bus ride up I-55 on Friday night. Trailing No. 10 Granite City 4-1 in the top of the seventh of this big nonconference affair in Granite City, the Titans rallied for four runs and defeated the Warriors 5-4.

 

The Titans senior leaders, catcher Jacob Reese and Jake Ingold, made sure the 90-minute bus ride back to Springfield would be a fun one. With the score 4-2, the EIU-bound Reese ripped a game-tying two-run double and then Ingold singled home Reese to put the Titans on top 5-4. Ingold (3-0) closed the door on the Warriors in the bottom of the seventh. Granite City falls to 17-4 on the season.

 

Lakes (14-9) senior RHP Travis Vanderwall improved to 4-1 on the season after firing a complete game and leading the Eagles to a 5-0 North Suburban Conference crossover win over Libertyville.  Junior 3B Paul Kukulka was 3-for-3 and had an RBI. Libertyville falls to 11-9.

 

In other North Suburban Crossovers, No. 8 Warren (20-3) and No. 12 Mundelein (17-5) rolled to easy victories…Warren won its 20th game of the season behind the battery of senior RHP Jeff Johnson and Virginia Tech-bound catcher Scott Heelan, as the Blue Devils trounced Round Lake 16-2. Johnson pitched three solid innings to pick up the win and Heelan had two triples, a home run and drove in six runs for the Devils.

 

No. 12 Mundelein (17-5) routed Antioch 13-4 as senior Mike O’Donoghue pitched four

solid inning to pick up the win on the mound and senior 3B Colin Franklin had three hits to lead the Mustang attack.

 

In the Jackie Robinson South, Whitney Young (14-10; 9-2) defeated Kenwood 13-7. Senior catcher Steve Giannoni homered and drove in three for the Dolphins.

 

In the MSL: Fremd (11-8; 6-2West) defeated Elk Grove 3-1. Senior RF Evan Wright had a clutch RBI single in the seventh. Junior LHP Kurt Kaufman picked up the win in relief of Viking starter junior LHP Sean Stutzman.

 

Indiana-Purdue Ft .Wayne-bound 6-foot-4 senior RHP Steve Danielak struck out 12 and fired a complete-game three hitter in leading Hersey (15-5;6-2 East) to an 8-1 win over Hoffman Estates (9-11;5-3 West). Hersey’s Western Illinois-bound Dominic Biagini went deep for the fifth time this season for the East Division leading Huskies.

 

Conant knocked Buffalo Grove (12-8; 5-3 East) out of a first place tie with Hersey. The Cougars rallied from a 13-7 deficit to stun the Bison 15-14.

 

Junior catcher Charlie Gould went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer to power Lake Forest past Wauconda 12-10.

Hinsdale Central senior RHP Drew Kornak went the distance as the Red Devils hammered Glenbard West 15-3 in six innings. Hinsdale Central hit five home runs.
