No 1. Harrisburg (34-0) was off on Saturday and open up Harrisburg Class 2A regional play at home vs. the winner of Monday's Massac County-Vienna on Wednesday

 

No. 2 Stevenson (25-3) defeated Lockport 5-2 behind senior RHP Greg Kingery and senior SS Kyle Ruchim. Kingery improved to 3-0 on the season with a solid five-inning stint, striking out seven Porter hitters. Ruchim went deep for the eighth time this season and had three hits, and junior LHP Blake Fiedelman picked up the save in the seventh.

 

The Patriots will be at No. 6 Warren on Monday and host the Blue Devils on Tuesday. The PBR will be at both games which will be for the NSC Lake division crown.

 

No.3 Naperville Central (26-4; 17-1 Du Page Valley) was off

 

No. 4 Downers Grove South (27-5; 16-1 West Suburban Gold): The WSC Gold champs swept Proviso East in a WSC Gold twin-bill on Saturday.

 

No.5 Providence (24-9; 16-2 Catholic Blue): Celtics wrapped up Catholic Blue play with a 3-2 win over Loyola. Junior RHP Brandon Margallones (5-2) picked up the win for the Celtics.

 

No. 6 Warren (25-5; 8-2 NSC Lake) lost again, this time to Lakes 8-6 in a North Suburban Conference crossover. Lakes (20-9; 8-2 Prairie) University of Iowa-bound RHP Nick Hibbing struck out 10 in his complete-game performance and improves to 7-0 on the season for the Eagles.

 

No 7. St. Charles North (27-5; 19-3) swept Elgin 11-0 and 13-4 to stay 1 ½ ahead of Waubonsie Valley in the Upstate 8.

 

No 8. St. Rita (23-8; 12-6 Catholic Blue) continued their late-season swoon, falling to Mount Carmel 6-2 in Catholic Blue action. Mount Carmel (23-9; 12-6 Catholic Blue) was led to victory by junior RHP Adam Panyaotovich (8-2), who fired a four-hit complete game at the fading Mustangs.

 

No. 9 Plainfield North (25-5; 15-3 Southwest Prairie) continued to make things interesting in the SWP Conference with a 3-2 loss to Romeoville (15-12; 8-9). Romeoville RHP Dan Cholke picked up the win on the mound for the Spartans. No.17 Minooka (27-5; 14-4 Southwest Prairie) creeps to within one game of the Tigers.

 

No.10 Naperville North (24-6; 14-4 Du Page Valley) was off

 

No. 11 Normal West (25-6; 11-0 Big 12): The Big 12 champs rallied past Danville 6-4 in the Big 12 conference game opener. ISU-bound Brock Stewart hit a three-run homer and drove in four Wildcat runs. Junior RHP Adam Seifert slammed the door on the Vikings over the last 4 1/3 innings to pick up the win. In the game two nonconference affair, the Wildcats rolled past Danville 6-2. Normal West has now won 21 of its last 22 games.

 

No. 12 Rock Island (27-3) lost 6-5 to 20-11 Metamora on Saturday.

 

No.13. Chatham Glenwood (21-4) was off

 

No.14 Granite City (23-5; 10-2 Southwestern) was off

 

No 15. St. Laurence (27-5;14-4 Catholic White) wrapped up a share of their fourth Catholic White title in five years with a 9-3 win at Bishop McNamara. Junior RF Kyle Wood hit his 12th homer and senior LHP Scot Koziol improved to 5-1 with a complete game victory for the Vikings.

 

No. 16 Carmel (22-8; 13-3 East Suburban Catholic) swept Marian Catholic 3-1 and 1-0 in an ESCC twin-bill. Corsair senior RHPs Paul Poirier and Jon Huisel picked up the wins on the mound and the Corsairs stayed in first place in the ESCC.

 

No. 18 Lincoln-Way Central (20-7; 8-2 Southwest Suburban Blue) split a twin-bill with Immaculate Conception. Winning game one 3-2 was Knight freshman RHP Matt Mikolajzak (4-1), who outdueled I-C RHP Matt McMahon (7-2). The 20-win season this season for the Knights is the first since 2000. Kudos to Lincoln-Way Central first-year coach Sean Bieterman.

 

The Knights, with a sweep of their two-game set Tuesday and Thursday with Homewood-Flossmoor, would claim the SWSC-Blue championship. Sandburg (22-9; 9-3 Southwest Suburban-Blue) has concluded their SWSC-Blue schedule.

 

No. 19 Illinois Valley Central (27-5) defeated Moline 3-2 behind junior Dan Semtner and junior LHP Brock Adcock. Semtner hit a two-run homer and junior Brock Adcock fired a complete game at the Maroons, allowing two unearned runs and striking out 10

 

No. 20 Burlington Central (29-1) won its 24th consecutive and school-record 29th game, defeating Prospect 7-3. Sophomore Zack Ranney fired a complete game and improves to 6-1 for the Rockets. Sophomore Tanner Scott had two hits and two RBI for the Rockets.

 

Waubonsie Valley (20-8; 16-4) – Warriors stayed in the Upstate 8 race sweeping East Aurora 6-1 & 16-1 on Saturday. Junior LHP Mike Murphy (5-2) struck out 14 and senior RHP Sean Smith (7-2) struck out six in complete-game victories.

 

Huntley (20-8; 13-6 Fox Valley Valley) fell into a second place tie with Cary-Grove (18-11; 13-6) in the Fox Valley Valley, with a 7-3 loss to Crystal Lake South.

 

Maine South (18-8; 11-3 Central Suburban South) defeated Glenbrook North 5-1 behind University of Illinois-bound RHP Ronnie Muck (9-3). Muck fired a complete game five-hitter with 6 Ks as the Hawks lead the CSL South with a pair of games to play…Maine West (19-7;12-2 Central Suburban North) defeated  Niles West 3-1 to clinch a tie for the CSL-North crown.

 

In the Chicago Public League playoffs, Simeon (23-6) rolled past Schurz 6-0 behind super-sophomore LHP Shane Brown. Brown fired a two-hit shutout and struck out six as the young Wolverines roll into the CPS quarterfinals.

 

Southwest Suburban Red Division-leading Stagg (20-10; 12-2 SWSC-Red) junior catcher Max Orant hit a game-winning three run-bomb in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Chargers to a 4-2 come-from-behind win over Brother Rice. Charger senior RHP Matt Conrad improved to 6-2 with the win in relief.

 

Stagg heads to Bradley-Bourbonnais (18-8; 11-3) to begin a season-ending two-game series with the Boilermakers

 

St. Charles East (22-9; 16-6 Upstate 8) swept South Elgin 5-3 & 4-3 in eight innings, behind junior LHP Wes Benjamin and senior RHP Robert Wendt. Benjamin improved to 9-1 on the season in game one 5 1/3 inning stint and Wendt fired 1 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the save.Wendt (5-2) went all eight innings in the nightcap to complete the sweep.

 

Lincoln (16-14) defeated Stanford Olympia 4-3 in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Stanford Olympia (27-8) bounced back to defeat Rochester (25-10).

 

Hinsdale Central (15-12; 11-6) West Suburban Silver) swept Oak Park 5-3 and 5-2 to pull within ½ game of Silver leader Lyons Twp. (22-10; 12-6). Red Devil senor RHP Will Pahos (6-1) fired a complete game victory in game one. Senior CF Mac Burridge drove home a pair of Red Devil runs in the opener.

 

In Game Two, senior RHP Drew Kornak (3-3) picked up the win with a complete game performance. Junior SS Matt Anderson homered and drove in three for the Red Devils in the game two win. On Tuesday, the Red Devils will host Oak Park. A victory will give the Red Devils a share of the West Suburban Silver title. The PBR’s Sean Duncan will be in Hinsdale for all of the action.
