In the North Suburban Lake: No.2 Stevenson (24-2; 8-1) and No.6 Warren (25-4; 8-1) both were victorious in NSC-Lake action on Wednesday.

 

Stevenson defeated Lake Zurich 9-2 behind junior RHP Tyler Radtke (6-0). Radtke fired one-hit ball over the first four innings and junior LHP Blake Fiedelman fired three scoreless innings. Senior Teddy Heiser had three hits and drove home a pair; senior Erick King homered and senior Jeff Ferstein had a perfect 4-for-4 day for the Patriots.

 

Warren cruised past Lake Forest 5-0 behind senior LHP Zach Schneider. The win was a Warren school record 25th for the NSC-Lake co-leaders. Schneider fired a complete game four-hitter with seven strikeouts as Schneider improves to 8-1 on the campaign.

 

In the Catholic League Blue: Mt. Carmel (22-8; 11-5) defeated Brother Rice 10-9 on Wednesday. Caravan junior Jordan Polito singled home the game-winner for the Caravan. Senior Brad Myjak hit a two-run homer for the Caravan.  Brother Rice (21-9; 12-5) was led by LSU-bound senior SS Kevin Koziol, who hit a grand slam and drove in five runs.

 

In the Catholic White: No.15 St. Laurence (26-5; 13-4) defeated Fenwick 4-1 behind a one-hitter by junior RHP Mike Chimera (6-1). Junior RF Kyle Wood drove home two for the Vikings.

 

In the Du Page Valley: No.3 Naperville Central (25-4; 16-1) blanked West Chicago 4-0 behind senior RHP Mason Hallett (4-0). Hallett fired a two-hit shutout and took a no-hitter into the seventh. The Redhawks opened up a three-game lead in the DVC when Wheaton North (21-6; 11-6) stunned No.10 Naperville North 2-1 behind ace RHP Mike Coduto (5-1).

 

In the East Suburban Catholic: Notre Dame (19-8; 10-4) swept away No.11 Carmel 9-4 and pulled within one game of the Corsairs (20-8; 11-3) in the ESCC. ND junior Mark Angellini improved to 4-2 on the mound with a complete-game performance.

 

Defending ESCC and Class 3A champion Joliet Catholic Academy (15-12, 9-5) pulled within a game and a half of Carmel with a 1-0 win over Benet Academy. Senior John Gerl’s RBI single in the sixth won it for the Hilltoppers. Senior RHP Max Couch improves to 3-1 on the mound for JCA.

 

Nazareth Academy (19-7; 8-5) pulled within two games of first place with a 9-0 win over Marian Catholic. Senior RHP Jake Mijares improves to 6-1 on the mound for the Roadrunners with six shutout innings of work.

 

In the Central State 8: Chatham Glenwood (21-4;12-0) won their 30th consecutive CS8 game, cruising past Lincoln 11-3 behind a four-hit, three-RBI day from Titan junior Jake Fulks…Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (14-8;9-3) moved into second place in the CS8 with a  10-1 win over Springfield Southeast. behind senior LHP Aaron Kelly (8-0). Kelly struck out seven and fired a complete game four-hitter for the red-hot Cyclones…Lincoln (14-14; 8-4) falls into third place in the CS8.

 

In the Southwest Suburban Blue: No.18 Lincoln-Way Central (18-6; 7-2) and Lockport (19-10; 7-2) slipped past Sandburg (20-9; 8-3) into first place in the SWSC-Blue by percentage points, .778 to .727. Sandburg was defeated by H-F 4-1 on Wednesday. Homewood-Flossmoor (19-5; 5-4) sits in fourth place.

 

No.18 Lincoln-Way Central defeated Lincoln-Way East 3-2 in eight innings. Knight senior 3B Jim Watson laid down a perfectly executed suicide squeeze scoring the game winner for the Knights. Lewis University-bound LHP Tom Helwich mowed down East in the bottom of the eight to finish off his complete-game masterpiece and improve to 5-1 on the season.

 

Lockport bounced back from their 2-1 extra-inning nonconference game loss to TF South on Tuesday to roll past rival Joliet 9-2. Senior Connor Petschke had three hits and drove in four runs. Lockport junior ace RHP Jake Bulthuis fired a complete game and improved to 6-1 on the season for the first-place Porters.

 

In the Southwest Suburban Red: Stagg (18-10, 9-2) routed Thornwood 11-0 in five innings. Junior Brad Clark hit a grand slam homer as the Chargers rolled…Andrew (18-9; 8-3) smashed Thornridge 16-0 and Bradley-Bourbonnais (16-8;8-3) crushed Thornton

to stay in the SWSC-R d.

 

In the Southwest Prairie Conference: Plainfield North’s junior right-hander Sean Renzi fired a two hit shutout and drove in four runs as No 9 Plainfield North (23-4; 14-2) smashed Romeoville 10-0 in five innings. Renzi struck out nine to improve to 8-0 on the season…No.17 Minooka (25-7; 13-4) defeated Plainfield Central 8-5 to stay 11/2 games behind first place Plainfield North. Senior Dan Cooper homered for the Indians. Junior Dakota Brown chipped in with a pair of RBI.

 

In the Interstate Eight Conference: Lisle (21-9; 11-4) defeated Peotone 5-1 behind a six-hit complete game gem by sophomore Kazim Kahn. The lone run allowed by Kahn was unearned as the talented sophomore improves to 3-2 on the season. Senior Ryan Liss drove home a pair of runs for the Lions. With the win the Lions clinch a tie for the I-8 North championship. I-8 South champ Herscher (23-8; 13-2) will play Lisle tomorrow.

 

Correction: Apologies to Lisle for incorrectly giving the Lions five I-8 conference losses when the Lions only had fallen four times in I-8 play.

 

 Wilmington crushed Sandwich 14-2 behind a two-hit complete game by sophomore Ty Anderson. Junior Colin Webb drove home three Wildcat runs. Junior Cort Scheel added three hits and a pair of RBI. Sandwich (16-13; 10-5) scored their lone runs on a two-run homer by University of Alabama (Birmingham)-bound Matt Morse.

 

Coal City (20-11; 10-5) won its seventh straight victory by stunning No.5 Providence 2-1 on Wednesday. The Coalers were led by senior RHP Alex Smith who fired a complete game five-hitter at the hot-and-cold Celtics. Celtic junior 3B Sam Travis homered for the lone mistake by Smith.

 

In the Upstate 8: No. 7 St. Charles North (24-4; 16-3) and Waubonsie Valley (18-8; 14-4) kept pace on Wednesday. Both U8C powers concluded sweeps of their respective opponents.

 

St. Charles North swept away Lake Park 8-3 behind senior LHP Ryan Hudspeth (6-0). Hudspeth allowed no earned runs and struck out five in his solid five-inning stint. North Star senior 3B Kevin Borst had a perfect 3-for-3 day and drove home a pair of runs for the first place ‘Stars.

 

Waubonsie Valley kept pace with St, Charles North as the Warriors completed their sweep of Bartlett with a 5-1 win on Wednesday.The Warriors were led by their senior LHP Kris Singh who fired a complete game,12 strikeout performance at the Hawks. Junior C Eric Josupait had three hits for the Warriors and Valparaiso University-bound Sam Carius drove in a pair of Warrior runs.

 

In the North Suburban Prairie: Defending champ Lakes (18-9; 7-2) defeated Grant 4-0 behind a complete game gem by senior RHP Travis Vanderwall (5-1). Vanderwall fired a two-hit shutout striking out seven and leading the Eagles into the top spot in the NSC-Prairie.

 

In the Western Sun, DeKalb’s junior LHP Cody Varga (4-0) outdueled Geneva’s senior RHP Riley Perry (7-1) as De Kalb (17-6; 12-4) defeated Geneva 4-3 and moved into a tie for first in the WSC. Varga also used his bat to defeat Geneva (19-6; 12-4) by ripping a Perry pitch for the game-winning single in the Barb sixth.Varga scattered nione hits in his complete game performance for the Barbs.
