C/OF Griffin Graue (Glenwood, 2023), a versatile defender at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, delivered one of the biggest swings of game play, a double to the wall that looked like it may leave the yard when it left the bat. Graue was yet another quality catcher for Team Illinois and showed clean actions behind the plate with an arm that played true at 74 mph from the crouch.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Graue repeatedly drove balls to the pull-side of the field from a fast, compact right-handed stroke, recording the day’s second-hardest hit ball at 95 mph. Defensively, Graue showed athleticism behind the plate with a quick release, popping in the 2.06-to-2.16 range with accuracy around the bag. He took a clean round of outfield defense as well, working on-line to his target with an 86 mph high to home.

Hit: RHH. Crouched stance, hands start at midline and slot slightly back, short stride. Strong hands, fast bat, stays compact, repeats and consistently drove baseballs to the pull side of the field.
Power: 95 max exit velocity, averaged 83.5 mph. 315’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 75 mph. OF - 86 mph. Short loose arm action, high 3/4 slot and quick to release. Accurate behind the plate. Longer draw from the outfield, loose high 3/4 slot.
Defense: 2.06 - 2.16 pop times. C: Quick/clean transfer, gains ground on throws to second, feet work in-line, moves well into block, deadens the ball out front, athletic mover out of the crouch. OF: Clean actions, controlled through release and works on-line.
Run: 7.13 runner in the 60.
One of the most complete defensive showings from this event came from 6-foot-2, 170-pound C/OF Griffin Graue (Glenwood, 2023). Graue kicked his workout off by recording the day’s hardest throw home from the outfield at 88 mph, showing life and carry through his target across all five of his outfield throws. He took a quality round of catcher defense as well, with clean actions to release and in-line footwork. Graue’s arm strength played from the chute too, topping at 80 mph with accuracy to his target and pop times in the 2.09-to-2.11 range. Graue’s effort while catching ‘pens didn’t go unnoticed either and his ability to chest up the baseball on a block was impressive, particularly after a lengthy workload. Graue has an athletic look in the right-handed box with a short, uphill path and consistent lifted contact into both gaps.
