6-foot-2, 200-pound C / 1B with a pop time of 2.02-2.11. Starts in an open batting stance with his hands high, knees slightly inward and bat straight up and down. In his load, he lowers his bat flat and coils his hands behind his head; shows quick hands and a level swing; 90 mph exit velocity. Hit several line drives in the showcase. Behind the plate, has a level setup with quick hands and a clean transfer; 76 mph position velocity. Sometimes falls off towards third base but keeps consistent feet. In the field, gets in good position but sometimes gets too low; showed good accurate throws across the diamond; 82 mph position velocity. Recorded a 60 time of 7.08.
2/16/2019: Eli Bell, C/1B, Zionsville HS, 2020, 6 foot 2, 195 pounds, is a toolsy catching prospect. Refer to notes from 2/9/2019 below, as he showed consistency in his performance from a week prior at the Primetime workout. Look forward to seeing how he progresses.
2/9/2019: Eli Bell, C/1B, Zionsville HS, 2020, 6 foot 2, 195 pounds, possesses all the size and tools to be a solid catcher and hitter at the next level. Hits from a slightly open stance and uses good lower half leverage to generate a max exit velo of 96 mph. Threw the ball 78 mph from behind the plate while posting pop times of 2.01-2.15. Has the arm strength to trim those pop times down easily in the future. Will be interesting to see Eli progress this spring and summer.
2/24/18: 6-foot-2, 185 pound catcher showcased pop times ranging 2.08-2.18. Quick feet, long at times. High 3/4 slot with above average arm strength. Throws topped 74. Hits from a balanced setup. Short, simple approach. Level plane, some extension after contact. Fluid rhythm. Stiff backside. Line drive hitter. Balanced swing. High exit velocity of 78mph. Ran a 7.19 60 yard dash.
6-foot-2, 185 pound sophomore fills out right handed batters box with long, physical frame. Swings from quiet, balanced stance, average stride forward with with front foot to start swing. Hands work low, down towards the baseball, entering at a downward angle to the ball and short out of the zone. Lower half works stiff, much more to be generated through the swing. Long, flat path, line drive swing to the pull side. Young frame, still more size and strength to be added to contribute to swing. Corner infielder, stiff actions to field with glove, feet choppy. Tall to throw, falls/spins glove side at release and follow through. More range and agility to play left side of infield. Behind the plate, big frame and target, glove sits too high in strikezone to receive. Glove works soft to catch, 1-hand catch and throw. Stands tall to throw, more footspeed and power in lower half to be gained. Throws were left of bag consistently with head and shoulders falling towards 3rd base to throw. Pop times ranged 2.25-2.33 opposite side of bag. Big frame to add strength to, more arm strength and bat speed to come.
