3/27/17 Game Notes: The 2016 IHSAA strikeout leader came in for relief for the Athenians.  Johnson featured a straight fastball that sat 83-85 with feel for both side of the plate.  He also showcased a hard, sharp breaking ball that sat 74-76.  Breaking ball drew several swing and misses.  Defensively, hands are sure with clean footwork.  Throws have carry across the field.  At the plate, Johnson is slightly closed with a compact swing.  Above average bat speed and good box presence. 

2/20/16: 6-foot-2, 180 pound right-hander pitches from an over-the-top slog.  Changes arm action between long and short.  Rhythm is choppy.  Fastball was up to 84, sitting 80-82.  Breaking ball had some bite at 70-72.  Changeup was 70-71. 

7/29/14: 6 foot, 165 pounds, 7.40/60. Talks and thinks the game. Throws 78 mph across the infield with a long, high ¾ arm angle. Average hands with a good feel for his position. Spray hitter that hits with his hands low in a balanced stance and a short stride, fast bat speed on a short path to the ball.

2/22/14: 5-foot-11, 155 pound freshman was 69 mph with some accuracy across the diamond from a long arm action.  Throws uphill.  Feet are slow, but plays through the baseball well with a clean exchange.  At the plate starts balanced with a high back elbow.  Loads back with a short stride.  Needs to continue to improve the use of his lower half.  Registered an exit velo of 76 mph.
