Wereski showed why he's one of the top arms in western NY this spring. On a 40 degree day with snow flurries he sat 83-86mph and touched an 87mph FB in the 3rd inning. He had great feel for his breaking ball as he got a lot of swinging strikes on a 71-73 curve ball that left hitters frustrated all day. The only times St. Joe's even got a runner near scoring position, Wereski was able to strike his way out of the jam.
New York Games (July 7-9, 2015)
Stands 6-foot-0, 195-pounds with thick broad shoulders. On the mound his delivery is balanced with good pace, arm action is loose-free and easy, throws from a high-3/4 slot. Fastball sat 82-85 mph with natural arm-side run and sink. Curveball was 70 with sharp, late action. Changeup has fastball hand speed, cuts it of at times. Shows the ability to locate three pitches in the zone all with next-level feel. Look for him to commit to a D1 program soon.
Western NY Winter Combine (January 3, 2015)
Wereski stands 6-foot-0, 195-pounds with great size, and room for projection. On the mound he starts on the 3B side of the rubber, uses a side step, balanced tempo. He drops and drives hard off back leg, back arm action (towards SS) level shoulders, long stride. Loose free and easy arm with next-level velocity projection. Wereski is a serious prospect to keep an eye on this spring.
