Big, physical frame with long lets and torso. Wide shoulders. Has a good presence on the bump. Despite size he has a very short and compact arm action. Ball jumps on hitters from behind his ear with some sneak velocity and riding life. FB peaked 86 mph sitting 82-85 with clear signs of more velocity to come. No wasted movement. Simple actions. Good body control. Goes after hitters with good intent and maintains good hand speed on all of his pitches. Still plenty of room for development.

Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)

Jackson stands 6-foot-3, 212-pounds (down three from last event) with a strong pitchers build, should see him continue to build overall body strength over his next two HS seasons. On the mound, he works with a slower tempo to his delivery, belt-high knee lift, arm-action is back and shorter with full extension out in front. Releases the ball from a high-3/4 slot, long stride, would like to see him work on getting a stronger front side as he finishes his pitch. Fastball peaked at 83 (up one sense Sept.) with a feel for command down-in-the-zone, was really impressed with his change-up that sat 76-77 with FB hand-speed and feel. Curveball has 11/6 shape. Overall Jackson keeps getting better which is a direct reflection on his work-ethic.

Western NY All-Star Games (September 24, 2017)

Jackson has an impressive pitcher's frame at 6-foot-3 215 pounds with a strong lower half. Pitching- Works from extreme glove side of the rubber, knee high leg drive. Stride stays slightly to the 3B causing some spin off with his follow through. Am action breaks just below the belt line, working through a 3/4 slot. Fastball showed some life to his arm side with improved velocity of 80-82 MPH, a 5 MPH bump from past events. Change up showed good down action at 66-68 MPH. CB was a bit on the slower end at 57-60 MPH but maintained tight spin and some late down action (11-to-5 shape out of the hand). Velocity jump along with improved command and action has Jackson on the rise.

Campus Series-St. Bonaventure (July 11, 2017)

Jackson stands in at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds with a tall, thick, athletic frame. Ran a 5.00 home to first, just beating his previously best recorded time of 5.03 set in February 2017. Offensively- Lefty sets up in an open stance with his feet shoulder width apart. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise into a stride forward while his hands move back into his hitting position. Good lower body rotation getting hips cleared and using whole body frame in swing process. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the opposite field during batting practice round with a smooth inside-out swing. Recorded an exit velocity of 84 MPH, a huge 10 MPH improvement from February 2017. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to the baseball. Clean fielding mechanics getting the ball into the chest with a quick transition to the throwing position. Whole fielding process could be quicker but will come with more development. Moves well left/right and in on the run with accurate throws. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 75 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step into a leg raise just above the hip crease. Breaks down hell with good separation into a high ¾ release point. Could engage lower half into the delivery with a better follow through to get in a good fielding position. Will come with more strength and development. Fastball range was 76-77 MPH and peaked at 77 MPH showing arm side run. Changeup was 63-66 MPH with sinking action.

Winter Open (February 26, 2017)

Jackson is a full bodied 6-foot-0 205 pound RHP/1B who ran a 8.13 60 and a 5.03 home-to-1B. Offensively- The LHH sets up slightly open with feet under the shoulders; uses a short take back with a stride forward to achieve a wider base. Rotational from the ground up with mostly pull side results. Some swing length that could be shortened with some lead arm work. Exit velocity was 74 MPH. Pitching- Sets up center rubber with a controlled side step up to a belt high leg drive. Lead leg tucks under the body before leading out to a direct stride, landing slightly open. Arm action is long, working from a low 3/4 slot with a limited follow through. Showed FB command to both sides of the plate at 76-77 MPH and demonstrated a feel for his breaking ball at 59-63 MPH with 1-to-7 action. Flashed a change up at 66-67 MPH. Good feel on the mound; additional ways to incorporate his body (legs and arm extension) will only help his progression.
