6/15/20

Physical: Showcased advanced comfortability in an uber physical 6-foot, 200-pound frame with athleticism in the movements and projects as an imposing mound presence overall. 6.98 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH. Balanced open setup with the hands starting at the shoulder with a high back elbow. Utilized a controlled lift-and-replace stride with slight barrel tilt at the top of the load to initiate his swing. Showed fluidity through contact point with an athletic and adjustable lower half allowing for hard contact on pitches in any quadrant. Displayed high level bat to ball skills on balls on the inner half with quick rotational power and a strong top hand. Hit into a stiff front side and registered a 94 mph bat-exit velocity per Trackman Baseball.

Defensively: The third baseman has a chance to be an impact defender at the next level with the body, instincts, and quickness to handle every day responsibilities at the hot corner. Featured a low center of gravity with good lateral movement to either side and a soft glove hand. This combination allowed for advanced range and good pace on any routes. Arm action played with intent through a high ¾ slot with life across the diamond. 3B - 86 mph

Pitching: RHP - Showed a feel for quality pace on the bump while getting into the legs with a power high ¾ arm-slot on the front side. Displayed downhill and heavy action on an 83-85 T87 FB that missed plenty of barrels mixed with a sharp 72-74 mph CB with 11/5 shape. Countered with a 77-80 mph SL with high level hand speed and deception demonstrating late horizontal bite.

2/29/20

The 6-foot, 200-pound two-way prospect showcased advanced feel for a physical frame with athleticism in his actions. The primary right-handed pitcher featured a controlled setup using a slight hip coil and a quick, high ¾ arm-slot throwing each pitch with similar arm-speeds. Commanded 82-85 mph fastballs down in the zone with arm-side run and late life. Mixed in feel for a 67-68 mph curveball flashing 11/5 action. Countered with a 75-77 mph slider showing occasional horizontal bite across the zone and small depth while being thrown with advanced sell. Deception between the slider and fastball has the potential to be a power combination for strikeout ability. The right-handed hitter begins with a balanced, open stance utilizing a controlled knee-knock stride to initiate a loud, slightly uphill barrel path into the hitting zone. Generated advanced hand speed towards contact yielding natural pull-side lift during batting practice. Strength in the lower half creates hip-shoulder separation coupled with a short barrel path yielding consistently hard contact to all fields, evidenced by an impressive 91 mph bat-exit velocity. Ran a 7.40 60-yard dash. The third baseman flashed adequate footwork, playing low to the ground with a soft glove hand allowing for accurate 87 mph throws with carry across the infield out of a fluid, high ¾ arm-slot. A quick first step and solid instincts generated range to both sides while showcasing the ability to make plays on the run athletically. His performance should solidify two-way capabilities at the next level, with a lot to like in the frame.

6/20/18

Defensively, shows soft hands in funneling from out front and bottom up. Feet work well to the baseball and transfer is clean. Arm strength has improved six MPH from when last seen six months ago in registering 76 MPH on throws across the diamond.

5-foot-10, 195-pound right-handed hitter initiates swing from open set up with short stride to neutral. Passive weight shift and intermittent early hand leak reduce separation. Hands work directly to the baseball. Hip turn is aggressive. Leverage is achieved through staying behind the baseball while releasing backside into firm front side. Overall mechanics show considerable improvement from presentation six months ago. A bat exit velocity of 85 MPH was registered.

On the mound, right-hander works out of mid 3/4 arm slot with moderate effort, repeatable delivery. Hip coil creates deception and is contributory to efficient use of lower half in young pitcher. FB sat 79-82 MPH with consistent arm side run and sink. CB at 66-69 MPH demonstrated 11-5 shape and at best moderate depth. SL was inconsistent at 66-68 MPH and 11-4 shape. Kelly did not throw CH.

1/14/18

Defensively, flashed solid footwork with developing arm strength on throws of 70 mph across the diamond. Hands are adequate.

Offensively sets open with short stride to neutral without gaining ground. Hands are dropped in load and there is early leak of hands reducing separation. Back elbow is passive in load. There is a solid weight shift and hip turn against a firm side. Hands work well to baseball with good barrel feel. Benefit would be gained from working back elbow up and back in load as well as leaving hands back during weight shift.

On the mound, Kelly worked out of mid 3/4 arm slot while staying in line and consistently repeating delivery. FB at 76-77 mph showed subtle arm side run. CB thrown at 61-64 mph displayed 11-5 shape and rolling action. Ch remains work in progress with tendency to get around and cut to glove side.
