10/29/23
Nevada Update: 10/29/23 - A two time PBR Future Games alum and the 2022 4A State Player of the Year. Evans attended the 2023 Preseason All-State event at Hurricane HS in March and during the running portion of the workout, Evans pulled his hamstring and subsequently missed the first 22-23 games of the regular season. He returned for the final couple of games and the rust needed to be shook off. As the state playoffs rolled around, Evans kicked it into high gear, and returned to his dominate ways, as Evans hit just about everything in sight, hard and into the gaps, while being intentionally walked 3-4 times over the course of a two game span. With Evans return, although the Mustangs blazed through the regular season without the state player of the year, Evans' return was a shot in the arm. At the recently completed State Games, Evans was a hitting machine during the workout, registering a 101.5 EV and drove the ball hard and on a line for a couple of 2B's during game play later that afternoon. Look for a big year out of Evans, as he will be the key cog in a revamped and new look and young Crimson Cliffs lineup next spring.

2022 PBR Future Games - Player of the Game vs Tennessee

The reigning 4A Utah Player of the Year and 2 time 1st ™ All-State honoree, Evans who is also a two time PBR Future Games alum, once again showed in BP why he is one of the better hitters in the state! At the Preseason All-State, Evans put up a 100.1 exit velo, with one HR, high and deep to LF at 396’, followed by a 97.1 exit velo at the Future Games and another shot of 387’. One stat particularly stands out from LakePoint as he put up a sweet spot contact and hard hit % of 82 in both categories, as well as a 360’ shot at the recent All-State Games. The power is to all fields, as I witnessed a shot to deep RCF and gone during Crimson Cliffs run to the 4A State title, as Evans put up 4 HR and 18 RBI during the state tourney!! What makes Evans Trackman scores impressive vs his Blast metrics, is that he has abv avg swing data, but not crazy data to suggest his distance max’s. He creates his distance and carry due to accelerating the bat head at contact with a whippy barrel release at the last minute, along with a lofted plane of attack at contact, to get the ball airborne for present and future power potential. Look for another big year in 2023 as Evans is another strong contender for Region and State Player of the Year awards for the next 2 years!

8/02/22

The reigning 4A Utah MVP, got off to a slow start in game one, then showed why he’s the best hitter in the 4A class and one of the best in the state in game 2, with a 2-3 effort, with a 2 run 1B and a deep drive to LCF for a ground rule 2B and also stole a base. For his efforts in a 7-3 win vs Team Tennessee, Evans was named the Dicks Sporting Goods Player of the Game. Evans spreads out and controls the zone as he rests his bat on his shoulder and then rocks back and forth, into an early load and inward turn of the knee, with a lift of the heal and sets it back down and fires the know towards the baseball and lays his barrel into the hitting zone, to create a flat to slightly uphill fast stroke to impact the baseball with power to all fields. Evans does need to work on his OF defense and routes/angles to balls, as he is new to the OF since his freshman year. The arm is relegated to LF, but the bat is loud and will carry him to the D1 level, as he already has an offer on the table.

3/06/22

One of the top 2 hitters in the class presently, Evans garnered 1st Team All-Region and 1st Team All-State honors as a freshman hitting in the 3 hole. A PBR Future Games alum, who will make his way back to LakePoint again this July and already has a D1 power 5 offer in hand. Blessed with a fast bat and an EV high of 100.1, to go along with hand and bat speed metrics of 23.1 and 73.2. Evans generates torque and leverage in his swing and with a slight uphill approach he can send balls deep and out of the park to the pull side as he hit 4 HR’s with 14 2B’s as a freshman. Relegated to LF as a defender and arm/speed wise, what separates Evans from others is an elite bat that should contend for player of the year honors before his HS career is over.

7/31/21

A Future Games participant, Evans showed extremely well with 3 hard barreled balls, with one deep over the CF’ers head for a headfirst 3B. Another 2B followed as well into the RCF gap and he also barreled a ball right back at the pitcher, who snared it from going into CF. The shot was clocked at 97.4 off the bat. New to the OF and just learning routes and angles, as he spends more time in left, Trey will become a passable defender in time, but it’s his focus in the box, with pitch recognition, a patient eye and strong hitting metrics that will drive him to the next level. He’s a happy feet type in the box, as he moves around with his feet in his setup, then gets everything going and into his load like a Dustin Pedroia or Nolan Arenado. It’s unconventional, but works for his style of hitting. One thing is for sure, college coaches know who he is after LakePoint with the bat!

5/15/21

One of the better hitters in the state statistically regardless of age and class. Evans played LF for second year Crimson Cliffs and Coach Justin Abbott, and hit in the 3 hole for a 15-12 squad. A consistent threat week in and week out and faced some of the better arms in the state, in Region 9 play, as there's 5 arms in the region, that touch 88/90 or even higher with a couple. Has some jumpiness to his feet and gets his whole body into his swing, rather than getting under his hips and using his legs. What he does do, is he has really good timing and the ability to square balls up and hit them hard to the pull side. One for college coaches to definitely follow moving forward.
