Strong projectable frame that has filled out well since we saw him last. Stands at 5-foot-11, 195-pounds and still has some room to grow. Hits from an athletic setup with hands back and loads into a slight bat wrap. Small pickup and put down landing on line. Hands are quick and strong getting through the zone with an uphill path to the swing. Finishes his strong lower half completely. Exit velocity was 92 and showed the ability to drive the ball gap to gap. Fields ball out front and brings hands to center to a clean exchange. Arm circle is small and showed some arm speed getting it out from a three-quarter arm slot at 78 mph. Behind the plate Butler displayed a quick jab step to a strong throwing position. Quick exchange to the hand and a short quick arm action throwing from a three-quarter arm slot with a velocity of 74 mph. Pop times ranged from 2.07-2.17.
2/17/18
Preseason All-State 2/17/18
Butler is 5-11 with an athletic frame and a stronger lower half. He hits from the right side from a slightly open, balanced athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth short load back, slight wrap, good quiet rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate completely and get explosive, maintains a good base with balance throughout his swing. Short and quick to the ball, works uphill through contact with extension through the ball. Line drive ability to the gaps with power to his pull side is evident, exit velocity was 83. Behind the plate, receives ball with hands apart, clean exchange otherwise, gains ground and throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action. Pop times were 2.19-2.27 and position velocity was 73. Quiet receiver, sticks the ball with soft hands.
