1A Sectional Preview



Sectional 49: Defending Champ – Kouts

Morgan Township (20-5) and Washington Township (20-9) should be the two favorites to walk away with a sectional crown. The sectional is set up for them to clash in the finale.

Sectional 50: Defending Champ – Tri-County

Caston (18-10) and North White (15-7) enter as the favorites. North White is led on the mound by DJ Buschman who went 9-2 with a 1.71 ERA and 74 strikeouts. Offensively they are led by Buschman (.381, 22 RBI) and Colin Hileman (.403, 25 RBI). They will get a tough test in round two with Tri-County and Riley Benner. Benner is hitting .482 with three homeruns and 22 RBI. On the mound he has 2.84 ERA with 78 strikeouts.

Sectional 51: Defending Champ – South Central (Union Mills)

South Central (12-13) is having a somewhat of a down year for them, but still have a good shot at walking away with another sectional title.

Sectional 52: Defending Champ – FW Blackhawk

FW Blackhawk (17-6) will come in as the favorite trying to defend their sectional title. On the mound they are led by four main guys: Matt Kaplanis (5-1, 2.76 ERA), Austin Osborne (4-0, 2.19 ERA), Aaron Jones (4-1, 2.57 ERA), and Riley Reimschisel (2-2, 3.36 ERA). Their lineup features eight players hitting over .300, led by Reimschisel (.429, 29 RBI) and Nathan Taggart (.421, 18 RBI). Their biggest test of the sectional should come in the championship with Elkhart Christian (13-7)

 

Sectional 53: Defending Champ – Rockville

Sectional 54: Defending Champ – Lafayette Central Catholic

Lafayette Central Catholic (24-4) will enter as the clear favorite. They have won three straight state titles. They have several big wins this year including beating: Lafayette Harrison, West Lafayette, Western, Delphi, and Frontier. Frontier (22-6) will be the biggest obstacle in the way for LCC. These two should meet up in the sectional championship. Frontier has a powerful offense led by Kyle Whitlow (.446), Brandon Gallinger (.439), and Kyle Mikesell (.455).

Sectional 55: Defending Champ – Wes-Del

Wes-Del comes in as the defending champ, but will have to get through several tough games to repeat. Cowan (15-7) will likely be the favorite to win the title. Offensively they are led by Aaron Wells (.440, 16 RBI), Alex Delk (.417, 2 HR, 25 RBI), Jon Miller (.380), and Luke Miller (.375, 5 HR, 21 RBI). Delk is also their ace on the mound going 5-2 with a 1.92 ERA and 69 strikeouts.

Sectional 56: Defending Champ – Seton Catholic

Seton Catholic (15-9) will enter as the favorite to repeat as sectional champion. On the mound they have two good arms that lead them in Adam Schroeder and Mat Blakely.

Sectional 57: Defending Champ – North Central (Farmersburg) (Now in 2A)

With North Central now in 2A, Shakamak (22-6) will enter the sectional as the strong favorite. They have big wins this year against North Central, Terre Haute South, Northview, and Vincennes Rivet.

Sectional 58: Defending Champ - Bethesda Christian

University (13-6) will enter the sectional as the favorite. On the mound their ace is Eric Wott who finished the season 4-2 with a 0.80 ERA and 42 strikeouts. Shawn Miller (3-1, 3.50 ERA) will be another pitcher that University will count on. At the plate University is led by Wott (.404, 17 SB), Alex Nerney (.375, 18 RBI), Nicholas Klemsz (.347, 2 HR, 17 RBI), and Matthew Padrick (.395, 16 RBI).

Sectional 59: Defending Champ – Edinburgh

Sectional 60: Defending Champ – Rising Sun

Rising Sun (18-5) will enter as the favorite to win the sectional for a second year in a row. Rising Sun has one of the top pitchers in 1A in Nathan Hannan. He has been dominant this year going 9-1 with a 0.25 ERA and 98 strikeouts. Miles Morris is their #2 he went 4-2 with a 2.36 ERA and 58 strikeouts. At the plate Brandon Turner has had a big year hitting .441 with two homeruns and 22 RBI. South Decatur (16-7) could be the biggest obstacle in Rising Sun’s way. These two could face off in the championship and with a potential great pitching duel with Hannan and SD’s LHP Matthew Gatewood (86-89).

Sectional 61: Defending Champ – Trinity Lutheran

Orleans (18-8) comes in as the favorite, having already beaten most of the teams in the sectional. Northeast Dubois (11-14) might be a tough test along the way. While their record isn’t great that beat Orleans 15-2 earlier in the season.

Sectional 62: Defending Champ – South Central (Elizabeth)

South Central (20-8) will look to repeat as sectional champions. Jason Boston will lead their offensive attack, at the plate this year he hit .452 with eight homeruns and 38 RBI. Jordan Yale at .412 with 23 RBI will be important to their success as well. On the mound the will rely on their 1-2 of Matt Veith (6-3, 3.10 ERA) and Boston (8-2, 2.04 ERA).

Sectional 63: Defending Champ – Loogootee

Loogootee (22-5) should repeat as champions. In the championship they would face off with the winner of Vincennes Rivet (15-11) and Barr-Reeve (15-11)

Sectional 64: Defending Champ – Wood Memorial
