#2 Calvary Christian defeats #20 Lakeland Christian
March 4, 2023
I headed over to Calvary Christian last night to see some top draft talent in the state as well as some high end college players on both sides. Hunter Dietz got the start for Calvary and he had his usual dominant stuff. He finished with 11Ks over four and a third innings.

Lakeland would immediately threaten when Daniel Hartley started the game off with a leadoff single but Dietz worked around the single. The scoring would get started quickly in the bottom of the first when Andrew Tess led off the game with a triple and then Keeton Burroughs followed it up with a double of his own. Blake Opie would later single to score Burroughs and push the lead to two.

The Warriors would once again threaten in the 3rd after Burroughs worked a leadoff walk and Landen Maroudis singled. Pitcher Anthony Schatz would get a lineout and double play to end the threat and the inning.

Things would settle down in the 4th when Dietz would once again strikeout three in an inning and Schatz would work a quick inning. A walk and an error would push Dietz out of the game in the 5th. Liam Peterson came in relief for the Warriors with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1-out. He got a quick strikeout and fly-out to get out of the jam.

Calvary would add some insurance runs in the bottom half of the 5th when Burroughs would reach base for his 3rd time in as many ABs. Maroudis would single and then Opie would break the game open with a 2-out 2 RBI single to make the lead 5-0. Lakeland got on the board in the 6th after a leadoff walk from Parker Galberaith and an RBI from Zach Lester. Back to back singles from Tad Brooks and Justin Mayes followed by a 2-out 2 RBI double from Maroudis would add two more insurance runs for the Warriors before we headed to the 7th.
