2013 Prospect Watch: Connor Combs (Waynesville)

Already, he is hearing from programs such as Louisville, Kent State, Wright State, and Indiana University.
Combs, who is a 6-foot-3, 178-pound athlete, has a projectable frame and room to fill out.
The left-handed hitting prospect uses a balanced setup and displays an advanced approach at the plate. His quick bat speed and slight uphill bat path produces gap-to-gap power.
During the high school season, he typically plays third base for Waynesville, but in the summer he settles into shortstop. At a recent PBR event, he showed 79 mph velocity across the infield and a 7.36 60-yard dash.
While discussing his possible position at the next level, Combs notes, “I have played short stop ever since I started playing baseball, but I am comfortable at third base as well. In fact, I think playing shortstop has made me a better third baseman.”
At the next level, the lanky prospect likely projects as a corner infielder.
“Because of my size, most people say that I will play third base (in college), but if possible I would love to stay at shortstop.”
With his recruiting process underway, Combs has a clear list of priorities when deciding his future college destination.
“I would like to play or contribute right away. And of course, the school has to offer what I would like to get into which is Exercise Science with a minor in business,” he notes.
Although he says that distance will not be a factor in his decision making process, Combs says, “I would like my parents to be able to watch me as much as possible.”
Last spring, Combs hit .400 with 30 hits over 75 at bat at the varsity level. He compiled 7 doubles, 2 triples, and 26 RBI.
Next summer, Combs will play for the Dayton Classics.
