FINAL SCORE
Crescent  7     Daniel  5

The Region 1-AAA Championship was a classic from the start. A neutral site game hosted by Westside would turn out to be a 4 hour back and forth affair spanning 11 innings for the region championship. Both starting pitchers (Linker and McCrary) would turn in good starts and keep the runs off the board for a while. Crescent would strike for 2 runs in the 4th. Daniel had many chances to put runs across the board having the bases loaded on 3 different occasions with less than 2 outs. However Daniel loaded them up in the bottom of the 7th and Julian Baldwin would drive in two with 2 outs to tie it at 2 sending us to extra innings. Both teams would go scoreless until the 10th inning. Crescent would score 3 in the top half, only for Daniel to score 3 in the bottom half of the 10th. Crescent would get started in the 11th inning with a Bordy Linker HR, and that seemed like that's all that was needed as Crescent would win it 7-5.

SCOUT BLOG

Weston Mize 2024 2B Crescent HS

Mize seems to be a major contributor in the box score every time you look. He had a huge AB in the 4th inning in which he took one deep off a quality arm. Smaller stocky frame with athleticism. Plays 2B hard with range. In the box has a wide balanced stance with a G2G approach and power to drive it out of the park at any moment. Put together some good ABs in this one even though he didn't always have something show for. Would be a nice pickup for a place looking for a gritty INF with power present in the bat.

Carson Roberts 2024 RHP Crescent Anderson Commit

Roberts is always a fun arm to watch on the bump. He came into this game to close it out for Crescent to win a region championship. Although he did struggle with command a little he was able to get his team out of some tough spots. When in the zone, was hard to barrel up and produced a lot of soft contact. FB was 83-85 with run. His CH was the put away pitch at 75-76 with good life. Roberts pitches with confidence and displays finesse when on the mound.

Brody Linker 2024 RHP Crescent HS Presbyterian Commit

Another outing and another big day for Linker. The PC commit looked good both at the plate and on the mound, getting the start in a crucial game to clinch a 1 seed in the playoffs. Linker sat 88-89 early topping at 91. Lived at the top of the zone getting swing and miss. Mixed in a good CH at 81 that he didn't throw a lot but effective when thrown. Breaking ball came in at 76. Early was able to locate the breaking ball, making hitters guess. Was able to keep Daniel off the scoreboard in his outing getting out of some crucial jams by getting strikeouts. High competitive motor with athleticism present. At the plate shows lots of power with a balanced approach. Hit a big HR in the top half of the 11th inning to essentially clinch the game for Crescent.

Greyson Davis 2B 2025 Daniel HS

Davis had a big day at the plate and in the field. Showed range at 2B and athleticism making a few nice plays through the 4 hole. At the plate showed a balanced approach with the ability to hit to all fields. Shows plate discipline and works the count well to get a pitch he can handle and drive. Smaller frame with athleticism and quick first step out of the box. Threat on the basepaths and ability to stretch singles into doubles. Was able to collect 2 hits on the night against quality arms while collecting 2 BBs.

Ian McCrary 2025 RHP Daniel HS

McCrary has been on fire late in the season when getting the start on the bump. This game was no different for him. He filled the zone early and often and rarely allowed runners on base. Kept the FB low in the zone at 83-84 mixing in a tight SL at 74-75. Athletic frame with much more room to grow. High ptichibality guy with high IQ and feel for the game. Impressive start for the youngster and may surprise some teams in the playoffs.

Liam Purcell 2026 RHP Daniel HS

One of the most intriguing arms from the long night. Purcell had been battling an injury the last few weeks and was just cleared to return for this game. He gave his team a big relief performance as well. FB was 85-86 with run and produced a lot of swing and miss as he was able to locate it at ease, in on the hitters. Has command of the zone as evident of his 6 Ks and 1BB in 3 innings of relief work. Tall lanky athletic frame with much more room to add to the frame. More velo to come from this young right hander and one to definitely keep eyes on.
