2013 Prospect Watch: Jake Krupar (Canton Central Catholic)

Fresh off winning the Division III State Championship, Canton Central Catholic outfielder Jake Krupar is garnering recruiting attention early in his junior year.

During his sophomore campaign, Krupar hit .373 with a .486 on base percentage and .746 slugging percentage. He compiled 9 home runs, 39 RBI, and 43 runs while playing centerfield for the Crusaders.

While Krupar had a successful spring, he doesn’t focus on his individual accomplishments. Looking back, he recalls, “I learned the value of good leadership and good teammates. The atmosphere created by our seniors and coaches made for the best sports experience that I have had so far.”

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect is a 6.9 runner. As a three-sport athlete, he uses his athleticism and speed to his advantage on the base paths and in the outfield. At the plate, the left-handed hitting Krupar shows pull power.

Since September 1st, he says, “I am beginning to get emails, mail, and questionnaires from several different schools in Ohio and throughout the nation.”

In particular, he is hearing from local schools such as Kent State, Cincinnati, and Wright State as well as out-of-state schools such as Kentucky and Kansas State.

While it is early in the recruiting process, Krupar knows the qualities that he seeks in his future college destination.

“First of all, I am looking for a school that offers a major in my area of interest.”

He goes on to note, “Secondly, I am looking for a strong baseball program that can compete at a high level, and teammates that are interested in a winning atmosphere. Finally, I want a coaching staff that is interested in building not only a strong ball player but also encourages excellence in academics.”

Next summer, Krupar will hit the travel and showcase circuit as a member of the Ohio Elite baseball program.
