2013 Prospect Watch: Tyler Sullivan from Holy Name

Tyler Sullivan, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect for Holy Name High School, is one of the state’s most versatile players in the Class of 2013.

As a sophomore, Sullivan was the starting catcher for Holy Name, who advanced to the state semi-finals at Huntington Park. During that game, Sullivan had the rare opportunity of catching his older brother.

Over the course of the spring, the switching hitting prospect hit .390 with a .500 on base percentage. Because of his success, Sullivan was named second team all conference and first team All-Sun Newspaper.

While just starting the recruiting process recently, Sullivan is receiving attention from several schools, both in and out of the state. Some of those schools include Cincinnati, Akron, Toledo, Ohio State, and Michigan State.

He notes, “I have had a couple of unofficial visits so far. After my fall season and busy showcase schedule finishes, I will be able to concentrate on setting up other visits.”

Although it is early, Sullivan has an idea on his future college destination. After seeing two older brothers go through the process, he has an edge up on my prospects his own age.

“I am looking for a campus lifestyle where everything is around each other. I would like a school that offers my major, possibly in sports management.”

He goes on to say, “I would also like a baseball program that would give me the best opportunity to compete as a freshman and help me develop as a baseball player, so I can achieve my ultimate goal of playing at the next level after college.”

Clearly an ambitious young man, Sullivan is working with a personal trainer 3-4 days a week concentrating on getting bigger, stronger, and faster. In addition, he is working with a hitting instructor.

This fall, Sullivan has already attended the Ohio State Prospect Clinic. In addition, he will be participating with players from all over the state under the umbrella of the Ohio Elite at the Perfect Game Underclass in Fort Myers.

Next summer, he will play for the T3 Pelicans, along with other high profile 2013 recruits, including Griffin Weir, Cassidy Brown, Kyle Michalik, and Dan Rowbottom.
