2014 Underclass Spotlight: Evan Warden, SS/RHP, Western HS



Evan Warden, is a 5-foot-10 155 pound shortstop/RHP from Western HS. Warden is an athletic high energy, high effort player. He ran a 7.01 60 and is 77 across the infield. At the plate, Warden swings that bat aggressively. He has quick hands and demonstrated that with 89 mph exit velo. On the mound, Warden is 80-83 with four pitches for a strike. All four pitches are plus high school pitches and down in the zone.

PBR: What are your expectations for the recruiting process?
Evan: At this point I would like for as many college coaches as possible to learn about me. 

PBR: What level of baseball do you see yourself playing at the next level?
Evan:  I would like to play Division 1.

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?
Evan: Right now it is pretty wide open since I am just starting my sophomore season.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Evan: I try to constantly work on all areas of my game. I will be focusing on base running. This year I want to take advantage of my quickness by doing a better job of reading pitchers deliveries and moves. I would also like to improve on my change-up.

PBR: What are your personal goals for the upcoming 2012 season?
Evan: I want to hit .500 and have an ERA of 1.50 or below

PBR: What are your high school team goals for the 2012 season?
Evan: Win our conference then win State.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
Evan: This summer will be my first year playing with the Indiana Prospects.

PBR: What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2011 baseball season (High School or Summer)?
Evan: In high school, playing varsity as a freshman and batting .448. For the summer it was pitching a shutout against the Indiana Bulls and going 3 for 4 at the plate.

PBR: What were your stats for your 2011 HS season?  Summer Season?
Evan: High School batting average was .448 with a 2.33 ERA.  In the summer season my batting average was .540.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter you faced in 2011 from the state of Indiana?
Evan: I hit against Bo Weir in the fall at Western before he went to college and he was the toughest pitcher I have faced. There were a lot of tough hitters I pitched against last year.

PBR: Have you decided on a major or narrowed it down?
Evan: I haven't decided on a major. I was thinking about Physical Therapy.
