With the 2016 spring season right around the corner, PBR New England is eagerly anticipating bringing the New England states the best high school coverage throughout the region.

Starting February 1st, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2016 Massachusetts Spring Team Preview: Nonnewaug

Team Name: Nonnewaug
Head Coach:  Frank Melillo
Division: Class M
2015 Record: 10-11
Conference: Berkshire
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 8/5

Overall Thoughts:

  • This is my first year at Nonnewaug, from what I have seen so far my team should challenge for a league title and hopefully have a nice run in the states.

2016 Team Strengths:

  • My starting pitching should be deep, we have 5 seniors and 2 juniors who who should start. Team leadership is strong and should also be a plus.

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • I don't see any real weakness this season, the one thing that worries me most is defense but the team is working hard and hopefully all the hard work will pay dividends.

Top Returning Players:

  • Tommy Abramovich, pitcher/infield, 5'11" 170, rhp, senior, 2 year starter
  • Bryan Fraser, 5'10" 205, rhp, senior, 2 year starter
  • Dominic Piscitelli, senior, catcher, 5'10" 180, 3 year starter
  • Kevin Young, 6'2" 230, senior, first baseman, 2 year starter
  • Alex Reimold, junior, 3 year starter, 6' 170, rhp/ss
  • Zac Mauro, junior, 5'8" 175, center fielder, 3 year starter

Top 2016 Players:

  • Dominic Piscitelli, catcher, great hitter, very good defensively, team leader, a captain, very teachable.

Top 2017 Players:

  • Alex Reimold, 6' 170, rhp/ss, very good pitcher, good shortstop, very consistent team player, good speed, good power and very baseball savoy.

Top 2018/2018 Players:

  • Liam O'Brien, 5'10" 175, rhp/catcher, good stick, very good arm, game smart, very good all around player
  • Matt Pape, 5'6" 145, middle infielder, very good speed, good contact hitter, leader and great teamate
