2016 Preview Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

On Saturday, October 18th over 50 players participated in the 2016 Preview Showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.  Despite the cold, rainy weather, the players toughed it out showcasing their talents and abilities to the PBR Indiana staff. Below we analyze the corner infielders from the event. 

Top Ranked Corner Infielder

Zack Turnbough, 3B/SS, Lake Central HS, 2016: 6-foot, 190 pound athletic Junior 3B possesses soft hands in the field with overall athletic actions.  Fluid feet, clean exchange, plays through the baseball.  Good feel for the position.  Strong , accurate arm with carry at 77 mph.  Ran a 6.90-60.  At the plate hits from the left-side.  Starts in an athletic setup using a long stride.  Possesses quick hands and consistently gets to extension.  Barrels up a lot of balls with pull-side power.  Registered an exit velo of 87 mph.  

Best of the Rest (In alphabetical Order)

Tyler Blackington, 3B, Carmel HS, 2016: 6-foot-2, 190 pound Junior with a strong athletic frame.  Showcased average hands with some range at 3B.  Exchange is slow.  Across the diamond was 75 mph with accuracy.  Offensively, displayed a good approach with a level path to the ball.  Stride is short with a smooth load.  Above average bat speed.  Hard contact with the ability to drive the gaps.  Registered an exit velo of 87 mph.  

Bradyn Bordenet, 1B, Lafayette C.C. HS, 2016: 6-foot-2, 215 pound Junior works well around the bag at 1B.  Fields it clean with good hands.  Ability to cover some ground to his right.  Across the diamond was 75 with some carry.  At the plate starts open.  Stride is short.  Loads back.  Level path to the ball and consistently got to extension.   Swing will get long at times.  Showcased gap to gap power.  Registered an exit velo of 84 mph. 

Cameron Brunnemer, 3B, New Washington HS, 2016: 5-foot-8, 178 pound Junior was 66 across the diamond with some accuracy.  Plays on his heels.  Feet are heavy.   At the plate hits from a slight crouch using a short stride.  Starts with high hands, aggressive swing.  Registered an exit velo of 70 mph.   

Christian Chapman, 1B, Fishers HS, 2016: 6-foot-3, 210 pound Junior possesses a strong, athletic frame.  At 1B showcased average hands with fluid feet.  Exchange is clean, but slow.  Plays through the baseball well.  Across the diamond was 77 mph.  Offensively, starts balanced with a high back elbow.  Smooth load.  Stride is short.  Average use of the lower half.  Above average bat speed.  Displayed gap power when getting to extension.   Projectable power.  Registered an exit velo of 86 mph.  

Tristan Cole, 3B/SS, Fishers HS, 2016: 6-foot, 186 pounder showcased athletic actions at 3B with good hands and fluid footwork.  Plays through the baseball well with athleticism.  Exchange is clean.  Possesses  a strong, accurate arm across the diamond at 75 mph.  Ran a 7.37-60.  At the plate starts balanced and uses a short stride. Minimal load back.  Average bat speed with a short path to the ball.  Line drive hitter when getting to extension.  Registered an exit velo of 73 mph. 

John Fesler, 3B, Frontier HS, 2016: 6-foot, 185 pound third baseman possesses soft hands.  Lacks elite foot speed, but was fluid in the field.  Exchange is clean and plays through the baseball.  Across the diamond was 72 mph.  Offensively, hits from a balanced setup with an open front foot.  Stride is short.  Hands drop during the load.  Long path to the baseball with an uphill plane.  Registerd an exit velo of 69 mph.  

Mitchell Fowler, 3B/1B, Pendleton Heights HS, 2016: 6-foot, 195 pound Junior 3B showcased average hands defensively.  Lacks elite foot speed and at time plays on his heels.  Makes the routine play.  Across the diamond was 77 mph with some accuracy.  Ran a 7.31-60.  At the plate hits from the left side in an athletic setup.  Stride is short with a smooth load.  Displays average bat speed with a short path to the baseball.  Swing plane is uphill.  Easy, pull-side power.  Registered an exit velo of 82 mph.  

Andrew Kennedy, 1B, Northridge HS, 2016: 6-foot-1, 200 pound Junior 1B showcased fluid feet around the bag with average hands.  Clean exchange.  Was 82 across the diamond from a long arm action.  At the plate starts open and uses a short stride.  Leg kick for timing.  Displayed quick hands with good rhythm.  Level plane produced hard hit line drives.  Showcased the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field.  Registered an exit velo of 83 mph.  

Jacob O’Donnell, 3B, Andrean HS, 2016: 5-foot-10, 170 pound Junior showcased average hands in the field with a clean exchange.  Plays through the baseball well.  Lacks elite foot speed.  Ran a 7.76-60.  Across the diamond from a short arm action was 72 mph.  Offensively, starts open with a high back elbow.  Hands drop during the load.  Stride is short with average use of the lower half.  Short path to the ball with average bat speed.  Registered an exit velo of 80 mph.  Line drive type hitter.   

Joseph O’Neil, 3B, Brebeuf HS, 2016: 5-foot-11, 175 pounds uses a short arm action across the diamond at 68 mph.  Clean exchange with an average glove.  Heavy feet.   At the plate starts balanced and loads back.  Long path to the baseball with average bat speed.  Registered an exit velo of 82 mph.  

Jack Phillips, 1B/3B, Cathedral HS, 2017: 6-foot-5, 185 pound sophomore possesses average hands defensively, with a long, accurate arm at 75 mph.  Lacks elite foot speed.  Ran a 8.06-60.  At the plate starts balanced.  Stride is short.  Long, level swing path.  Registered an exit velo of 74 mph.  

Jared Schoen, 1B, Hauser HS, 2016: 6-foot-1, 210 pound Junior 1B showcased average hands with a strong arm across the diamond at 75 mph.   At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Loads back and uses a long stride.  Displayed average bat speed with a long, uphill path to the ball.  When getting to extension shows some gap power.  Registered an exit velo of 81 mph.  

Nate Thomas, 3B, Mishawaka Marian HS, 2016: 6-foot-3, 235 pound 3B possesses a big frame with a strong lower half.  Good hands defensively.  Moves well for his size.  Exchange is clean and plays through the ball.  Across the diamond was 80 mph with carry.  At the plate starts with a wide base.  Minimal stride.  Loads back.  Average use of the lower half.  Bat speed is average.  Uphill swing plane, long path.  Line drive hitter.  Registered an exit velo of 80 mph.
