2017 Recruiting Trail: A Couple of Top Prospects to Keep an Eye on

Francis Villaman SS, Olympia HS 2017

Villaman is a 6-foot-1 175 pound shortstop with an athletic, lean, and projectable body. He has loose, smooth actions in the field with soft hands, good range, and an above average arm. He should be able to play shortstop for a long time. At the plate, he has good rhythm and transfers his weight well. He also has a nice swing plane and drives the ball to all fields. He played shortstop and hit second for powerhouse Olympia high school this season. He should be getting serious looks from major D1 schools this summer and we should not be surprised if he commits before school starts.

Shane Roberts RHP, Dwyer HS 2017

Roberts is a 6-foot-1 180 pound pitcher with a strong and athletic frame. He has a loose, high ¾ arm action and a smooth delivery that he consistently repeats. His fastball sits in the mid 80’s and he can run it up into the upper 80’s. His curveball usually sits in the 71-73 mph range and has good depth and rotation with a ¾ break. He also flashes a solid changeup. He really fills up the zone and had a great sophomore season. If he is touching 90 mph by the end of the summer there is a pretty good chance he could commit because he will definitely be getting seen. Even he does not commit this summer he is a definite D1 prospect.
