2019 Elite Prospect Showcase Spotlight: 2021 1B/OF Aaden Newman

The Elite Prospect Showcase annually showcases many of the top uncommitted prospects across the state and from a few surrounding states. 2019 marks the 7th year for this event with more than 200 former participants having gone on to college commitments and a handful to professional baseball. 

As we draw closer to the end of October we will be periodically highlighting some of the prospects scheduled to participate. Today we continue our preview with a look at 2021 1B/OF Aaden Newman.

Scouting Report

2.16.19 - 6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to begin. Stays behind the baseball well and in the zone for an extend period of time creating back spin. Showed some gap power with a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Ran a 7.28 60-yard dash and showcased capable actions around the bag at first base with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond.

10.27.18 - 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed the ability to stay behind the baseball and to create consistent backspin during a solid round of batting practice. Registered a 75 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.29 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills as an infielder with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Athletic frame that has room to add strength. A move to first base or a corner outfield position is likely given his size.

7.10.18 - 6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a high finish and the ability to create occasional back spin with solid feel for the barrel. Registered a 78 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.66 60-yard dash. Displayed developing defensive skills with a tendency to cut off his lower half in his throwing motion with 68 mph arm strength across the diamond.

6.20.18 - 6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed hitter participated on day one of the event only. Starts his swing from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 74 mph. Went 1-for-2 with a walk in game action on day one.
