Prep Baseball Report

2021 Oregon Rankings Update

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

After a year full of challenges and adversity, we've expanded our state rankings to 105 players as we head into 2021.

Notes and evaluations were compiled throughout the course of the summer and throughout the fall season.

Since its inception in 2005, the Prep Baseball Report has evolved into one of the country’s biggest and most respected independent scouting services, with a singular focus of providing comprehensive year-round coverage in every state we are in. The mission of the Prep Baseball Report is to scout and promote amateur baseball - high school, junior college and college - and, ultimately, help athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level.

With more than 150 scouts, we have the largest baseball scouting infrastructure across all levels of amateur baseball in the country. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state.  While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

Rankings are based off evaluations by scouting director Dan Jurik as well as additional PBR scouts across the country who have seen prospects from the state at various events.

With a majority of the prospects on the list uncommitted, the goal is for this information to help assist college coaches as they look to finalize their recruiting classes and add additional pieces to their roster.

2o21 rankings

top 10

The names and order of the Top 10 remain the same. We had the chance to get eyes on most of these prospects during the fall months and they've firmly cemented themselves at the top of the list. As we get into 2021, it'll be exciting to get back out to see everyone compete. This group will garner plenty of attention from pro scouts once baseball resumes, especially with the 2021 MLB draft now pushed back to July.

New Additions...

Isaac Evaniew RHP / 1B / Churchill, OR / 2021

Evaniew will be a huge addition to the 2021 class out in Oregon. Originally from Indiana, Evaniew was recently up to 89 mph on the bump and has a solid pitching frame left to grow into. In addition to his arm talent, he's a sure-handed defender at 1B with an up-the-middle approach during BP with a loose, handsy type swing. Look for Evaniew to be a nice addition to a Churchill roster that will now feature 3 top 20 players as he joins Oregon commits Carson Lydon and Cho Tofte.

Noah Lyman 3B / 2B / Jesuit, OR / 2021

Columbia commit. Athletically built at about 6-foot, 180 pounds. Lyman shows a quick, direct swing at the plate with tight, compact actions. Contact type approach capable of working to all fields Defensively, he moves with on the dirt with active feet while showing a clean exchange into his throwing motion. Actions project well for the INF long-term.

Broderick Stanaway RHP / OF / Sprague, OR / 2021

A standout performer at our Uncommitted Senior Showcase this fall. Stanaway offers significant projection while showing impressive current stuff. The body type, arm action and data all bode well for future development and he has some of the best upside we've seen in the '21 class on the bump. Expect to hear more from Stanaway in 2021 as he continues to progress.

Connor Hale 3B / 2B / Newberg, OR / 2021

Hale showed some loud tools this fall, especially at the plate. Had a peak exit velocity of 97 mph during BP and averaged 71.26mph on his bat speed throughout. On the mound, he sat 80-81 with tight, compact arm action and aggressive finish. CB has chance to be a solid offering and spins up to 2220 rpm.

Risers...

Gavin Kleier LHP / Grant, OR / 2021

Kleier bumps up a few spots after showing continued development and making a velocity jump. The talented lefty has always showcased a clean, whippy arm and a feel for spinning the baseball. Now the physical maturation is starting to catch up to the raw arm talent. At this pace, Kleier could be a big helium prospect in 2021. Portland commit

Jackson Koons LHP / Liberty , OR / 2021

Pitchers with 3 offerings for strikes always seem to do well for themselves. Especially if they can do it from the left side. Koons fits that mold and continues to show that he understands how to get outs. His pitchability makes him a consistent performer and he should continue his winning ways at the next level. Linfield commit

Brandon Cabrera OF / C / Aloha, OR / 2021

Athletic outfielder with a lean, wiry frame and some twitch in his actions. Cabrera moves well on defense with the arm path and throwing motion you'd like to see from the OF. Offensively takes an aggressive forward move to the ball while staying balanced in his legs. Controls the barrel and could see an uptick in pull-side pop as he continues to get stronger.

Jack Muth RHP / 3B / Sprague, OR / 2021

Muth showed a solid combination of size, strength and actions back in the summer at our Top Prospect Showcase. On the bump, his feel for the zone and ability to pitch really stand out. The arm works free and easy out front & should add more velocity as he continues to mature and get stronger. Also spins a consistent breaking ball and a CH that shows late tumbling action.
