Prep Baseball Report

3 for '23 - Gillespie, Hogan, Reveal

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Earlier this Fall we had the chance to gather a strong group of uncommitted '22 and '23 prospects from WA and OR to compete against each other down at Goss Stadium on the campus of Oregon State University. The day kicked off with an indoor workout and then concluded with a controlled scrimmage.

PBR events events such as this provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future GamesJunior Future Games and West Coast Games

Here are notes on 3 standouts from the 2023 class to keep an eye on heading into the 2022 season

3 FOR '23

uncommitted spotlight

Camden Gillespie C / RHP / Lake Washington, WA / 2023

6-foot-1, 195 pounds with strength throughout and a durable build. Powerful lower half. Sets up in the box with a slightly open stance & feet just outside of shoulder width. Slight bat wiggle for rhythm before he gets into forward stride. Lands with tall posture as hands stretch back beyond rear shoulder prior to launching swing. Tight rotation with upper half as hands stay inside of the ball. Aggressive lower half into contact against a strong front side. High, elevated finish with chance to produce consistent power. Defensively has the actions and arm talent to stick behind the plate. Showed solid mobility with lower half during receiving. Easy exchange out of the crouch with short, compact arm action and high ¾ release. Ball shows carry out of hand and was consistently accurate to the bag. Notable riser heading into the 2022 season

Oliver Hogan 3B / SS / Garfield, WA / 2023

Athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds with room for more strength. Offensively, sets up with a tall stance and upright posture. Upper and lower half align directly at pitcher. Puts a short, controlled forward move on the ball. Hands stay just beyond rear shoulder with a subtle load prior to swing. Keeps length/leverage in lower half as he gets into landing. Weight stays on backside as he rotates into contact with a level barrel plane and flatter finish. Line drive approach with consistent hard contact. Showcased at both at both 3B and SS, flashing actions and arm strength to handle the left-side of the INF. Works towards the hitter in his pre-pitch set up then establishes a wider base at contact. Stays back in his stance and lets ball travel. Soft glove hand while receiving. Clean exchange into throwing motion that syncs up with rhythm in his footwork. Occasional glove tap for timing prior to release. Loose, clean arm action from ¾ slot. Solid body control while coming in on the ball.

Graysen Reveal C / 3B / Tumwater, WA / 2023

Powerful frame with strong levers at 5-foot-11, 195 pounds. Quiet, relaxed set up in the box. Lower half starts narrow, slightly open to the pitcher. Gathers weight back with a low leg lift before taking short forward stride. Hands stretch back with a subtle scap load and slight in-ward turn from upper half. Stays tall and hits against a firm front leg. Easy leverage in swing with strength at the point of contact. Heavy barrel action into the zone. Defensively profiles well at C with strength & size. Works below the ball with a one knee set-up while receiving. Keeps flexion in glove hand. Consistent footwork out of crouch and into throwing motion. Quickly aligns with target and gets backside through on release. Short, tight arm action with high ¾ slot. Ball carries well out of hand and consistently stays on target with the bag.
