Indiana University’s baseball team won’t be the only Hoosiers in action when the NCAA Division I Tournament gets underway this week.  The double-elimination event opens Thursday at Stanford, Calif., with competition at the other 15 regional sites beginning Friday.

Fourteen of the 64 schools in this year’s tourney include former Indiana high school players.  IU leads the way with 14.  The Hoosiers’ first game is Friday against Ohio University at Cliff Hagan Stadium in Lexington, Ky.

Louisville is next with seven ex-Hoosier preps on its roster.  The Cardinals currently rank sixth in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Xavier has four Indiana high school alums, Ohio and Kentucky have two apiece, and nine schools include one ex-Hoosier prep:  Michigan, Florida Gulf Coast, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Central Florida, Illinois-Chicago, Iowa, Yale and Nebraska.

The numbers show a slight increase from last year’s NCAA Division I regionals, when 13 schools took part with 33 Hoosier high school products.
