4/21/15: The 6-foot-6 right-hander made his second start of the 2015 season last night and appears to be nearing full strength after tearing his ACL back in December. The Louisville recruit pitched four complete innings allowing just one hit while striking out eight in a 3-0 victory. Throughout the four innings Hoeing displayed good command of his fastball which was mostly 87-89, touching 91 with life. His breaking ball was unhittable at 74-77 with good depth. Hoeing totaled 44 pitches on the night throwing 35 strikes.
5/5/14: The No. 2 ranked prospect in Indiana's 2015 class sat 88-91 most of the game with his fastball, touching 93 twice and 94 once in the third inning. Sat 86-88 from the stretch. The 6-foot-6 Louisville commit possesses a plus breaking ball with depth at 72-76 and has the confidence to throw it in any count. Throws an 83-87 2-seamer with some movement and a 75-77 mph changeup for a strike. Hoeing's arm speed appeared to be quicker than the last time we saw him; ball jumps out of his hand from a 3/4 arm slot. Works at a good pace with easy effort.
7/2/13: Hoeing an impressive 6-foot-6 righty with an easy delivery at 89-90 and showed a good breaking ball with depth. Hoeing is now known nationally and in the professional world as well. He made East Coast and has been on visits to almost every top school in the Midwest and is talking to some national schools as well. Hoeing is currently the number one player in the 2015 class.
5/15/13 Game Notes:Projectable frame at 6-foot-6 and almost 200 pounds. Looks imposing on the mound. Was an easy 87-90 in his first inning of work, and sat 86-88 mph the rest of the night. Was 86-88 mph from the stretch as well. Fastball shows good movement. Not afraid to throw inside, and did so well nailing the inside corner for a strike on numerous occasions. Arm isn't exceptionally quick, but is loose and the ball jumps out of his hand. Breaking ball was 74-78 mph, mostly 75-76, and is a plus pitch at the next level showing tight spin and good depth. Possesses size and athleticism, making him a high end prospect at the next level. Made strong case to take over the No. 1 ranking in Indiana's 2015 class
7-18-2018: 6’6/220 pounds. Wide frame with sloped shoulders. Strongly built throughout upper and lower half. Still room left for some projection. Not fast-twitch but good body control and athleticism in his actions. Repeatable tempo/pace to his delivery. Throws with good intent while keeping balance and posture. Works out of a high ¾ slot. Loose arm action. Maintains consistent bend in elbow on his takeaway. Avoids wrapping or getting too long on his backside. Strong lower half allows him to brace front leg after release and get extension through his target. Fastball was primarily 90-93 mph and topped at 94. Held velo out of the stretch. FB showed good life into the zone and downward plane. Minimal arm-side run. Curveball consistently showed 11/5 shape with good depth in the 76-80 mph range. Tight spin out of his hand. Demonstrated better command using it as a get-me-over pitch early in counts. Tendency to overthrow and elevate CB when going for a strikeout. Gave up hard contact in multiple at-bats on two-strike CBs. Should be correctable given his athleticism. Changeup is a solid offering at 82-85 mph. More comfortable using it against LHH. Maintains good arm speed and creates late fade on the pitch. Keeps all three offerings around the zone. Overall, good sized athlete with a consistent three-pitch mix who still has the room to get stronger and add more velocity. No dominant strengths in his game but also no glaring weaknesses. Hoeing had a very solid 2018 season at Louisville and should see an even larger role in 2019. (Dan Jurik)
