4A Mount Carmel Regional: Mount Carmel Run-Rules Kenwood

CHICAGO, IL - The Caravan of Mount Carmel jumped all over the Kenwood Broncos defeating them 11-1 in five innings in the Regional Championship game at Mount Carmel on Saturday morning.

Mount Carmel put up two runs in the second inning, five in the third and four more in the fourth en-route to their 11-run outburst. Jake Kapers got the scoring going with an RBI double in the second inning. Ed Howard joined the action in the third with a two-run double into the right-center field gap. Kevin Dowling also knocked in a run with a double in the third inning, In the four-run fourth inning, Kapers scored two more runs with a sharply hit single to left and Joshua Houston hammered a two-run home run to straight away center field.

Senior Anthony Scanlon took the ball for the Caravan and picked up the win on the mound. The right-hander went all five innings, scattering five hits, allowing run one run, none earned, striking out three and walking three. Scanlon used a fastball/slider combination throughout to keep the Kenwood lineup off balance and made some big pitches in key situations.

The Kenwood offense was led by D’eric Shenault who went 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored.

Christian Lucio, Howard and Kapers had two hits apiece to lead the way for the Caravan.

Mount Carmel will face St. Laurence at St. Laurence in the Sectional Semi-final on Wednesday.
