Muscle Shoals 12 Deshler 1 (6 innings)

For 5 innings 2021 Parker Willingham (Deshler) and 2020 Andrew Jones (Muscle Shoals) were locked into a pitcher’s duel. The two gave up 1 hit a piece and combined for 16 strikeouts. Willingham used an upper 80’s fastball that topped out at 89, including heavy sink and arm side run. He also mixed an impressive breaking ball  at 74-76. Both pitches were impressive and he showed good command of both. Jones primarily used an 83-84 fastball that he was able to command on both sides of the plate that seemed to over match Deshler.   

Muscle Shoals scored first in the top of the 2nd inning with a lead off double by 2022 Jackson Brown. Brown advanced to 3B on a passed ball and was driven in on a 4-3 ground ball by 2020 Carson Knight. Deshler tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a lead off walk by 2021 Ethan Wallace. Wallace stole 2B and advanced to 3rd on a fly ball by 2021 Nick Whitten. Wallace was able to score on a pass ball to tie the game at 1-1. Muscle Shoals took the lead for good in the top of the 4th when 2020 Cooper Vincent drove in the go ahead run with 4-3 ground ball, making the score 2-1. Both starting pitchers left the game after 5 innings and Muscle Shoals went on to score 10 runs in the 6th inning that included 7 base on balls and 2 errors by Deshler. 2021 Carter Arnold came in to pitch a scoreless 6th inning for the Trojans. Muscle Shoals improves to 3-0 on the season and Deshler falls to 0-2
