The Alabama Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Scouting Staff during the season. This running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects, and anything else that is notable. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocities, pop times, home to first times, and more.

Continue to check back over the course of the week, as the Alabama Scouting Staff will add scouting reports daily.

+ RHP Andrew Allen (Alexandria, 2024) got the start in Game 1 for the Valley Cubs and matched Moon pitch for pitch, allowing only one unearned run. The uncommitted junior showed an uptick in velocity as worked from a shorter arm strike and a higher 3/4 arm slot. Allen has a very physical lower-half that bodes well for the future as there is plenty of velocity that is still projectable in the next few years. Working from a simple up-tempo delivery, Allen attacks hitters usually mostly a two-pitch mix that he shows plenty of confidence in both offerings. The fastball showed some late arm-side action that also seemed to show some late life at 87-89 mph as bumped 90 mph twice early in the outing. In the later innings he settled in at more 86-87 mph but was still as effective. The breaking ball at 73-76 mph was used consistently as a swing-and-miss offering as the pitch showed sharp 11-5 action from the same arm slot and arm speed. He finished going 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, & 5 Ks.
