All-State Games: 2018 Standouts

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

On Saturday, October 28, some of the top talent in Texas met in Tomball to compete in the PBR Texas All-State Games. The event featured players from all four high school classes, including 2018 & 2019 grads, along with a select few 2020 & 2021 grads. In the past week, we have released our position analysis. Today, we bring you the Senior Standouts from the event.

RILEY LAMBERT

OF / MIDWAY, TX / 2018

Lambert is a fast-twitch athlete with a lean-muscular frame at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds. All fall, Lambert has separated himself as one of the top uncommitted outfielders in the 2018 class. He can handle the bat from the left side, is a sub-7 runner (6.89, 6.97 in two events this fall), and has a plus arm in the outfield (89 mph). During batting practice, the left-handed hitter showed a relaxed, line-drive approach with loose hands and smooth rhythm. He has a flat path, quick hands, and whips the barrel through the zone with relative ease. Showed up on time and peppered the middle of the field with hard liners to the outfield, as well as getting to balls on the inner half with an exit velocity of 88 mph off the tee. During the game, Lambert smoked a fly ball to centerfield off a two-strike curveball. In the outfield, Lambert moves with easy athleticism and rhythm, clean exchange into his crow hop, long arm stroke from a high slot with a quick hand back to front. Good carry and accuracy with a top velocity of 89 mph.

JACE HUTCHINS

RHP / COLLEGE STATION, TX / 2018

Hutchins, a recent Blinn JC recruit, stands 6-foot-4, 205-pounds, with a projectable pitchers frame. The right-hander put together a solid outing, punching out three batters in one inning of work, two on changeups. He works from a high-¾ slot with short arm stroke. Good tempo in a drop and drive delivery, maintains good posture down the mound, athletic finish. Both fastball and changeup come from same window and have solid depth. Turns his fastball over with heavy sinking action at 83-84 mph, topping out at 85 mph. Changeup is a plus pitch with heavy arm side fade from 73-76 mph.
