FT. MYERS—The second 6A state semifinal ended up being similar to the first as Archbishop McCarthy beat North Marion 14-2. What makes this loss so excruciating for North Marion is the fact that many of the runs they allowed came off walks and errors. The Maverick offense was led by 2016 SS Kobe Lopez (Alabama State commit) and 2017 OF Adan Fernandez. On the mound, they were led by 2019 LHP Yordani Carmona (FIU commit) who looked incredibly poised for a freshman.
This contest was lopsided early on as Archbishop McCarthy scored eight runs in the top of the second inning and took all the life out of North Marion. Again, many runs were scored on walks and errors even though the offense in the second was highlighted by a Fernandez double deep to right-center. 2019 C Jake Holland (Miami commit) also drove a run that inning with a sacrifice fly.
The Mavericks picked up the rest of their runs in third inning by putting up a six spot. Carmona threw four innings and allowed one earned run and then 2017 RHP Daniel Federman (Miami commit) allowed one run while closing out the game.
Archbishop McCarthy will look to defend their state title tomorrow at 4:00 PM against Mosley HS.
