British Columbia Insider: BC Announces BC Selects Roster

Baseball BC has announced the BC Selects Roster, which will represent the province at the Canada Cup taking place August 8th through 12th in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Canada Cup is a premier 17U tournament and features teams from each province competing for the national championship. BC’s roster was announced, and we will look at some potential impact players for BC.

The Staff

Madjik Mackenzie RHP / SS / John Oliver, BC / 2019

Report: Madjik is a returning selects player who had an incredible year this past season in the Premier Baseball League. He dominated the league, lead in ERA and was second in wins. He has tremendous compete level and pitchability. He can throw three pitches anytime for strikes. He has a unique delivery which helps hide the ball and throws from a ¾ arm slot with good movement. His fastball was 82-85 at our ProCase in May and has touched some 87’s during the summer. He isn’t afraid to pitch in or out and his fastball has sink to it. His curveball 66-68 is an average pitch but he uses it effectively to keep hitters off balance and can throw it for strikes consistently. His best pitch is his change up 75-77 mph which he is comfortable throwing at anytime.

Carter Morris RHP / W.L. Seaton, BC / 2019

Report: Carter is a Canadian Junior National Team member and another returnee from last years squad. He is tall, lean and has a quick loose arm which the ball explodes out of his hand and gets on hitters. He throws from a low ¾ arm slot. His fastball is 85-88 and has sink. He throws a slurve which is 72-75 and when its on, its an out pitch for him. His change up can be inconsistent at times but has a chance down the road to become an above average pitch. Carter will be counted on to be one of BC’s aces this year for the Canada Cup.

Joseph Sinclair LHP / Sentinel Secondary, BC / 2019

Report: Joe is another returnee from last years Canada Games squad and will be counted on to provide quality innings. He plays for the North Shore Twins, a BCPBL power and is their Ace. He stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 160-pounds with a deceptive delivery. He hides the ball well, has a long stride and the ball gets on you quick. His fastball is 84-86 with a good curveball that shows depth. Joe is quite projectible and will be a must follow for college coaches.

Lukas Frers LHP / Vancouver, BC / 2019

Report: Lukas was also a member of last years Canada Games squad and plays for the White Rock Tritons of the BCPBL. He is a good athlete which helps him repeat his delivery. He has a high ¾ arm slot and arm side run on his fastball. His fastball is 81-83 mph and he uses both sides of the plate effectively with a curveball at 71-72 mph with 11/5 shape. He will also throw a changeup in the 71-74 mph range.

Jack Seward RHP / Port Moody, BC / 2020

Report: Jack is a hard throwing right handed pitcher who stands in at 6-foot-3 and weighs 170-pounds and plays for the Coquitlam Reds. He has a loose arm and gets good downward plane. His fastball is 84-86 and touches 87 mph and projects to throw harder in the future. His CB has good depth and comes in at 73-76 mph.

Reid Dawson RHP / R.A. McMath, BC / 2019

Report: Reid was the ace of the North Delta Bluejays and is a complete pitcher. He logs a lot of innings, doesn’t overpower anyone but pitches to contact and does a good job of changing speeds and keeping hitters off balance. His fastball is 79-83 with late arm side run on his two seem, throws a 12/6 CB and shows a developing Splitter.

Jackson Flemons RHP / OF / st.johns, BC / 2019

Report: Jackson plays for the UBC Thunder baseball club and is a projectable pitcher. He has a pitchers build with long arms and broad shoulders and the arm works well. His fastball is 83-85 mph and throws a curveball 69-72. He was a standout on the Dbacks Scout team in Arizona in the all academic game at the junior fall classic.

Kevin Kim RHP / Yale Secondary, BC / 2019

Report: Kevin is a 6-foot-1, 170-pounds pitcher from the Abbotsford Cardinals of the BCPBL. Kevin has a quick live arm and attacks hitters. His fastball is 82-85 and throws a sharp curveball 69-70 which is an out pitch. Shows a developing splitter which gets a lot of swing and misses. Kevin is uncommitted and should garner interest from colleges this summer/ fall.

Noah Takacs RHP / OF / Oak Bay, BC / 2020

Report: Noah is a big RHP who throws hard and projects. He has good mechanics and a repeatable delivery which dominates the BCJPBL for the Victoria Eagles. His fastball is 84-86 but has touched 87 with an effortless delivery. Currently, his curveball is an average pitch but has potential to be above average in a few years when he matures and gets more of a feel for it. He also throws a change up which is advanced for his age. Noah is a player to keep a close eye on down the road.

Gavin Pringle RHP / NA, BC / 2020

Report: Gavin is another member of the Victoria Eagles but on the Senior team. He is a real physical kid, 6-foot-2, 223-pounds and although he has a unique delivery, is still able to fire his fastball in the upper 80s. He is a max effort guy but is a workhorse for his club team. His curveball has 12/6 break and works at 69-71 mph.

Position players

Connor Dykstra C / OF / Sardis, BC / 2019

Report: Connor is a physical 6-foot 200-pounds right-handed hitter who is a strong receiver and has a good arm with a 1.91 pop time at our ProCase this past May. At the plate, he has good balance and a simple swing who doesn’t get cheated. He has gap to gap power and every now and then will launch one. He should be a middle of the bat for Team BC.

Connor Caskenette C / 3B / Cowichan, BC / 2020

Report: Connor is also a physical kid 6-foot, 198-pound right-handed hitter who has improved his footwork and has a good arm. His pop time at our ProCase in May was 1.91 and last week during the PBL playoffs showed off a strong arm nabbing three baserunners. At the dish he has a short, compact, powerful swing and barrels up most baseballs. He is a tough out and doesn’t get cheated at the plate.

Josh Walker SS / 3B / Lambrick Park, BC / 2019

Report: Josh is a very athletic 6-foot-2, 176-pound LHH middle infielder who can run well and shows good reads off the bat. His arm needs to get stronger but still has enough to get it across the diamond. Offensively he handles the bat well and has good bat speed. He has good balance and squares up most pitchers he faces with gap to gap power.

Madjik Mackenzie RHP / SS / John Oliver, BC / 2019

Report: Madjik is a two-way guy who when he isn’t dominating on the mound, can bat in the middle of the lineup. He hit clean up for his club team the Coquitlam Reds in the PBL and was a tough out all year. He swatted four home runs and had 26 RBI, has a smooth swing from the left side with good approach and leverage.

Jude Hall OF / 3B / GW Graham, BC / 2020

Report: Jude is one of the younger players on the Canada Cup squad this year but looks like he’s a 19 year old with a muscular frame. He stands in at 5-foot-10, 165-pounds and has strength to hit at the next level. He has a slightly open stance and narrow feet to create power with his stride. He runs well and has a solid arm from the outfield.

Carlin Dick LHP / Abbotsford Senior Secondary, BC / 2020

Report: Carlin is another 2020 outfielder on this years Canada Cup team. He has a short, stocky build with a lot of power at the plate. He stands in at 5-foot-9 175-pounds and has surprising speed considering his build. He has an advanced approach at the plate for his age and seems to find a barrel with most of his swings. This past year he hit .309 along with 2 homeruns with his club team, the Abbotsford Cardinals. His arm is slightly better than average and tracks the ball well in the outfield.

Adam Maier RHP / SS / NA, BC / 2019

Report: Adam plays for the North Shore Twins 6-foot 175-pounds and is a two-way guy and according to his coaches he is the definition of the ultimate two way guy that can contribute on both sides. His fastball has topped out at 86 mph and he has some pop in his bat hitting two home runs this past season.

Ty Hall SS / 2B / GW Graham, BC / 2019

Report: Ty stands in at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds and plays middle inf for his club team the Chilliwack Cougars. He has good hands and a solid arm and profiles as a second basemen in the future. He has a compact swing with some power.

Brad Cox
Report: Brad is a jack of all trades according to one of his coaches. He plays shortstop and stands in at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, He plays for the Victoria Eagles and has good hands and some pop in his bat with gap to gap power. He can also throw if needed and pitches at 78-81 mph.

Dawson Clark
Report:
Dawson also plays for the Victoria Eagles and is 5-foot-10, 145-pounds, He possesses great speed which help him track down fly balls and on the base paths. This past season he swiped 24 bags.
