Best Tools: Uncommitted 2016 Infielders

In a series of articles, we will be breaking down the uncommitted seniors with the best tools in various categories. Let’s take a look at 2016 infielders to see who has the best tools.

Best Hitting Prospect/Best Arm Strength: Pat O’Hare (Seton Hall Prep)

O’Hare is athletic and physical; stands 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. The 3B prospect ran a very solid 6.85 in the sixty-yard dash. O’Hare has a compact stroke with good strength in his swing. He shows the ability to drive the ball, particularly to his pull side. He is not afraid, however, to drive the ball into the opposite gap when needed. Defensively, he has a great arm from the OF (88 MPH) but is a third baseman (85 MPH). He has clean actions, a strong arm, and is instinctive. He gets good reads on ground balls and knows which hop to take. He could work better through his throws but that will be an easy adjustment for the high level athlete.

Best Power Prospect: John VanDeMark (Bergen Catholic)

VanDeMark has an imposing 6-foot-4, 235 pound build. The left-handed hitting first baseman hits with a relaxed, quick confidence. He hits with an open, balanced base and has a smooth load and a small leg kick. He has a line drive swing plane and has the ability to barrel up balls to all fields. He has plus power potential from gap-to-gap.

Best Running Prospect: Anthony Dombrowski (Don Bosco Prep)

Dombrowski is a very solid athlete and he proves it by playing multiple positions (INF/OF) at a high level. He runs a 6.72 in the 60-yard dash, proving to be one of the fastest uncommitted players in the state. Offensively, he likes to get his foot down early in his swing mechanics which works for him because he can rely on his hands to work. He produces solid exit velocities with a largely “handsy” approach. He has strong wrists and can hit line drives all over the field.

Best Fielding Prospect: Shane Keledy (Steinert HS)

Keledy has some of the smoothest actions I’ve seen from a shortstop all summer. He is a pure shortstop whose range, glove skills, and ability to quickly transfer the ball will allow him to stick at the position at the next level. He improved upon his raw speed since I last saw him as well (7.03). He is a handsy hitter with bat speed and the ability to hit quality pitches. He is selective and waits for a pitch he could jump on and has the ability to still hit balls hard when he has two strikes because of his ability to hit with his hands. He’s cleaned up his lower half in the box and is getting more juice behind the ball now. He should be able to hit for average at the next level with some added size. I really like him as a defensive prospect.
