Breathitt County's Alex Hamilton Sets Two Kentucky Strikeout Records

When senior Alex Hamilton took the mound last week against Jackson City, he had no idea what he was about to accomplish.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound lefty, an Eastern Kentucky recruit, struck out a whopping 25 batters in the 9-inning performance, and in the process set two Kentucky high school single-game records.

Hamilton set a new record for strikeouts in a regulation game with 21, breaking the previous 7-inning record of 20.  He also set a record for strikeouts in a 9-inning performance, finishing his day with 25.

The ironic part is Hamilton didn't even earn the win in the stunning performance.  Breathitt County needed 10 innings to squeak out a 5-4 victory in the game.

For the season, Hamilton has now recorded 97 strikeouts in just 38 innings.  That equates to a staggering 2.5 strikeouts per inning.
