Cathedral's McCarty dominates with 7 K's in 10-0 route

Senior RHP Nick McCarty, Cathedral HS, gave up a base hit up the middle in the top of the first inning to Columbus East's Brian Wichman.  After Wichman's hit McCarty dominated allowing no hits with seven strike outs.  McCarty sat at 84-87 with his fastball for most of the night. His most dominant pitch was his breaking ball that consistently froze Columbus East's hitters.

Cathedral's offense started off quickly as Virginia Tech recruit, Matt Dauby, led off the inning with a double to left center.  Dauby would later score along with Irish teammate Brendan Flood on Ryan Levenhagen's  (Army) two RBI double.  McCarty, who reached on a walk, scored the third and final run of the inning on Alex Boos' sacrifice fly.

The Irish would put four more runs on the board in the second.  Both Flood and McCarty had RBI base hits, and Levenhagen would again drive in two runs with his second double of the night.  Cathedral led Columbus East 7-0 through four innings.

In the fifth, Cathedral put the game away scoring three more runs.  Levenhagen scored the first run on a wild pitch.  Boos had a base hit, and eventually scored on Will Hunker's RBI groundout.  Austin Sparks got the final run in for Cathedral with a sacrifice fly.
