2018 NYSPHSAA Baseball Championships Class B

THE COVERAGE

Prep Baseball Report- NY Scout Dan Jurik (@PBR_DanJurik) will be covering the Championship game at NYSEG stadium at 1pm Saturday.

THE BREAKDOWN

Center Moriches (Section 11)
Record: 21-4
Road to Binghamton: Defeated Wheatley (Section 8) 11-1; Defeated Marlboro (Section 9) 5-1.
Key Contributors: David Falco, Liam Pulsipher, Matt Alifano
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Albany Academy; 2pm @ Maine-Endwell HS
Prediction: Two big time arms in 2018 Pulsipher (Stony Brook Commit) and Falco (Maryland Commit) will be tough to beat. Both teams play a strong schedule, so expect an old fashioned duel in the first round. 

Albany Academy (Section 2)
Record: 24-2
Road to Binghamton: Defeated Ogdensburg (Section 10) 10-7; Defeated Plattsburgh (Section 7) 7-3.
Key Contributors: Brett Young, Ben Seiler, Johnny Decker, Ethan Duda, Edward Birch
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Center Moriches; 2pm @ Maine-Endwell HS
Prediction: A talented roster. It will come down to who's pitching will hold up the longest. Young (VCU Commit) came up huge in last year's semifinals with a walkoff HR (mega bat flip/toss) to advance. Seiler  (Siena Commit) or Birch (Suffolk University Commit) will need to match either Pulsipher or Falco pitch-for-pitch for Academy to advance. Their experienced infield could pay off in the small ball game. 

Seton Central Catholic (Section 4)
Record: 16-5
Road to Binghamton: Defeated Adirondack (Section 3) 3-2
Key Contributors: Mason Vaughan, Leo Gallagher, Peter Hartrick
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Royalton-Hartland; 5pm @ Maine-Endwell
Prediction: Vaughan (Manhattan Commit) has been a horse for a few years, his bat and arm both will be factors. Hometown favorites will no doubt have tremendous support. 

Royalton-Hartland (Section 6) 
Record: 18-2
Road to Binghamton: Defeated Midlakes (Section 5) 10-1
Key Contributors: Jacob Bruning, Charlie Bruning, Al Xapsos, Walker Samanka
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Seton Central Catholic; 5pm @ Maine-Endwell
Prediction: The Bruning brothers have been the go to 1-2 punch this year for the Rams. If they can get by Vaughan they can match up with the talented arms in the other bracket. 8th grader Gavyn Boyle will be a player to watch for the future this weekend.

OUR THOUGHTS

"Wow, so much pitching! This could be a NCAA regional matchup in 2 or 3 years. Moriches probably has the most dominant 1-2 option. Their matchup with Albany Academy will most likely determine the state champion as both teams are deep and talented. Vaughan gives it one last hurrah for the hometown fans and propels Seton to the final. If Albany Academy can pull out game one they they will avenge last year's loss in the final. When it's all said and done though, Center Moriches takes the title back to Long Island."
