As always, please email [email protected] or direct message @PBRNevada with any news or commitment information.

Just a little over three months since our launch, PBR Nevada is able to recognize a special success. (#14) Paul Vossen, OF 2019 (Bishop Manogue) has recently committed to the University of Utah.  Vossen posted a 6.49 60 yard dash in the inaugural showcase and the rest is "proverbial history". He is a hard-nosed, fearless competitor with impact speed.

Having spent 15 of the last 18 years involved in baseball in the state, "I have known Vossen since he was a youngster. Paul is the exact reason why I decided to return to Nevada in this capacity. We have a lot of great players in the state that can impact programs around the country, and I look forward to assisting that process.

Today we catchup with Paul Vossen and discuss his recent college selection.

PBR: Why did you choose Utah?
Vossen: I chose Utah because I felt like it was the best fit for me. Ever since going on a visit there I built a good relationship with the coaching staff and they made me feel a part of the family. The facilities are nice, the school is nice and those had an impact on me. Getting a chance to play in one of the best conferences in the nation, the PAC 12, drew me in because getting to compete with that talent is something else.

PBR: What coach on staff was your primary recruiter and how it that relationship?
Vossen: My primary recruiter was Coach Crawford who is the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at Utah. He’s a great guy to get to know and talk to, we called and texted often and built a great relationship. He was confident in my ability and liked my speed, and truly thought that I could make an impact to their program. His belief in me definitely convinced me to want to play for them.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Vossen: I was considering and in contact with Washington State, my hometown school UNR also showed interest. UCSD and some JUCOs also were interested. Utah was ultimately the big picture for me.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Vossen:
The coaches heard about my speed and became interested and so I was put in contact with Coach Crawford. They also saw me at one of their camps. That’s where this journey all started.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
Vossen:
My parents are the people who have supported me the whole way and ultimately have given me the opportunity to do all of this. Buddy Gouldsmith, who I have known since Little League, has showcased me and gotten my name out their which is the biggest reason why I am here with this opportunity. Chris Aguila has helped me develop my swing and he greatly impacted my journey. Coach Oppio, Coach Kulo, and Coach Enard also helped me develop my game and taught me to put my speed to use, which made me more of a threat on the field.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer/fall and what has that experience been like?
Vossen:
I play for the Reno Athletics during the summer/fall. This team consists of the players on my high school team who are coached by our high school coaches. Playing for this team with my friends during every summer of my high school career has been the greatest times of my life. Coach Oppio was great in getting us in competitive tournaments in Boise and Twin Falls, Idaho. We also played in the Corvallis Classic this past summer which was a great experience as we played at Oregon State’s stadium against a mix of all star teams and JUCO teams filled with committed players, many to D1 schools.

PBR: Did your association with PBR assist in the recruiting process? If so, how?
Vossen:
My association with PBR greatly assisted in the recruiting process because of all the schools that follow PBR. If you have the ability to play in college PBR will get your name out there and coaches will find you. Buddy Gouldsmith is the real deal with getting kids recruited and I would recommend getting associated with him and PBR if you want to play in college.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have for you during your freshman year?
Vossen:
The coaches plan for me to come in there and compete, there’s many opportunities my freshman year if I compete and prove myself.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
Vossen:
My most memorable moment to date is winning the Northern Nevada 4A Regional Championship with my high school team Bishop Manogue and getting to compete against the top teams from Vegas in the state tournament.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Nevada?
Vossen:
The best pitcher I faced happened my sophomore year on varsity against Casey Miller who is pitching at UNLV now. Christian Chamberlain who pitches at Oregon State was the best pitcher that year and easily one of the best to come out of this area but I did not face him.
