PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Smith: I chose St. Mary's because it was the perfect distance from home being 2 hours, the have a really good business intelligence and analytics program, and a solid baseball program

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Smith: My next two choices were Luther and Southwest Minnesota State. But I also visited Augsburg, St. John's, Hamline, Gustavus, and Bethel.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Smith: The coaching staff first saw me at a game this spring. They then sent me a letter, and I talked with coach Winecke at our section tournament and I then set up a visit.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Smith: Although I did enjoy all the campus visits and meeting with coaches I am relieved that it's over and I found a good fit for me.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Smith: The things that put St. Mary's over the top was the community and close knit feel that the team had. Also, I feel like I could learn so much from their pitching coach TJ Oakes.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Smith: I think my dad has helped me the most because he was my coach growing up and he has always been supportive of me.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Smith: I think the recruiting process was exactly what I thought it would be, enjoyable but is very time consuming and a lot of work.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Smith: The coaches told me that there was a good chance I could play right away, but I would still have to earn that playing time.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Smith: My most memorable baseball moment is pitching in the state tournament last spring.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Smith: The best player I have ever competed against was Drew Gilbert when we played Stillwater in a scrimmage last spring
