Omaha Westside's Dalton Bargo on his commitment to Missouri

Following a stellar showing at the Midwest Premier Super17 in Kansas City, offers began to roll in for senior catcher Dalton Bargo. 

Bargo slugged two long balls and knocked in 11 runs while hitting an astounding .700 at the plate. He guided the Nebraska Prospects to a championship at Creekside and got the eye of one SEC school.

“Missouri called me this summer after seeing me in the tournament down in Kansas City,” Bargo said. “I went down for a visit, and I immediately fell in love with the campus and committed later that week.”

At the plate, Bargo has always been the aggressor and loves to attack the first couple pitches in an at bat. Over the summer his power numbers increased he said because of the work he put in at the gym.

As a junior he hit .304 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in, garnering the attention of various division one schools. Bargo will return to Westside in the spring with hopes of taking the Warriors to a state tournament appearance after falling short last year. 

“I transferred to Westside my sophomore summer and coach took me in and gave me a chance to play right away,” Bargo said. “He helped me see what the next level is like paying with the upperclassmen and it helped me tremendously.”

At the next level, Bargo loves watching Royals catcher Salvador Perez play and likes to model his game after him behind the plate. He noted that Perez doesn’t take the game for granted and gives 110% in every game no matter what.

The Royals became Bargo’s favorite team after his dad watched them every night growing up. His dad is who got him into the game as a kid and helped inspire Bargo to pick up a baseball for the first time. Now after years of training, Bargo has a chance to fulfill his dream of playing in the SEC.

Playing in the SEC has always been a goal for Bargo as he noted just how high the talent is within the conference. He hopes to one day make it to the pros, and the first step is playing against the best competition.

“The SEC is the best conference in college baseball as far as I’ve seen,” Bargo said. “They send so many guys to the draft, and I think playing in the SEC will give me the best chance to make it to the big leagues.”

Not only will Bargo be a primary catcher for Missouri, he noted the Tigers will also give him an opportunity to play corner infield. Staying relaxed and letting the game come to him allows Bargo to be smooth in the field and has been something he’s focused on over the offseason.

Although he has already committed to Missouri, there is still unfinished business for his senior season. After failing to make the state tournament last year, Bargo hopes to guide the Warriors to a state championship come springtime.
