Division 4 State Semifinal: Beal City vs Kalamazoo Christian

EAST LANSING, MI – Beal City continues its impressive season as the Aggies advance to the Division 4 state championship after defeating Kalamazoo Christian 11-1 in six innings.

Ty Rollin got things started for the Aggies in the first as he reached base via an error and after three wild pitches, Rollin came around and scored to put Beal City up 1-0.

The Aggies added one in the second and one in the third.

In the second, Tucker Gross walked and took two bags on an errant pickoff throw to first. Luke Farrell scores Gross on a perfectly executed squeeze.

In the third, Ryan Tilmann roped a two out double to right center and scored on a Gross RBI bloop single to go on top 3-0.

Beal City capitalized on three errors, three walks and a HBP in the fourth to explode for six runs.

Kendall Flaugher drew a leadoff walk and Carson Salisbury followed with a nice drag bunt single to put two on. Ty Rollin walked to load the bases and Nick Hoogerhyee was hit by a pitch to score Flaugher.

Chase Rollin hit a sacrifice fly to score Salisbury and Kevin Bleise walked to load the bases again for Tilmann.

Tilmann hit a ball towards short that the shortstop was unable to make the play as the ball trickled into left. Rollin scored and Hoogerhyee rounded third and looked to head home as the left fielder air mailed the ball home allowing Hoogerhyee to score and Bleise and Tilmann to advance to second and third. Bleise and Tilmann later scored to put the Aggies on top 9-0 through four innings.

After the six inning fourth, Beal City went to a pitching change to save Ty Rollin for the finals. Rollin went four strong innings allowing just two hits in the first inning while sitting down ten straight batters.

Kurt Gross came in to throw the final two innings allowing one run on three hits.

Kalamazoo Christian got their lone run in the sixth as Alex Visser singled, advanced to second on an infield single by Cameron Ackerman.

Visser scored on an RBI ground out by Greg Harris.

The Aggies finished on the run-rule with two runs in the sixth to put the Comets away 11-1.

Tilmann roped a two run single up the middle and after back-to-back hit by pitches by Tucker Gross and Farrell, Kurt Gross plated two with a two-run single up the middle.

Top Performers:

  • Ty Rollin, picked up the win on the mound going four innings allowing just two hits while striking out four. Rollin also sat down 10 straight. At the plate Rollin scored two runs while having single, walk and stolen base.
  • Ryan Tilmann, had a single, double and three runs scored.
  • Tucker Gross, had a two singles, a walk, a HBP and two runs scored.
