FALL BALL NOTES - CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

LAS VEGAS, NV - Championship Sunday of the LVBA Desert Fall Classic requires the winner to win 3 games.  A tall task for any squad, especially when the feat would include winning 7 games in three days for the eventual champion.  The morning started early for the local Shadow Ridge Mustangs who opened up Sunday with an 8 am contest versus the Rocky Mountain Oysters.  Shadow Ridge made quick work of the Oysters, run ruling them 8-0.  The shortened game would provide some value for the Mustangs as they prepared for a long day of baseball.
Next up the Northwest Elite.  It looked early as if this would be the end of the line for the Mustangs as the Elite jumped on top early.  The scrappy Mustangs would stay the course with some outstanding diving catches from centerfielder, Austin Cullor (2019) and multiple innings of scoreless relief from Tyler Knight (2019).  Infielder, Andrae Sanchez (2020) and Hunter Staley (2020) had key hits, propelling Shadow Ridge to a come from behind win in the semi-final contest.
Although the Mustangs would not be able to complete the final task, their effort was commendable against the visiting Minnesota Millers.  Each team spread thin, the Millers would eventually hold on to win the championship 9-6, in spite of a late inning basesloaded single from Shadow Ridge's Ashton Caniglia (2020).
