Fall Academy Championship: Day 1 & 2 Scout Blog

The Fall Academy Championship kicked off Friday night at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida. Teams from the Underclass and Upperclass divisions competed in pool play games that continued on Saturday. Today starts bracket play at the Fall Academy Championship with the championship games coming in the afternoon. Today, we'll take a look at the Day 1 and 2 Scout Blog from the Fall Academy Championship, featuring notes and standouts from the first two days of action.

Day 1 & 2 Scout Blog

Steven Andrews RHP / 3B / Elev8 Academy, FL / 2021

Uncommitted. Athletic right hander works stretch only with a balanced delivery. High 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm. Fastball sitting 85-88 and showed feel for the breaking ball. 

 

Edwin Arroyo SS / Central Pointe Christian, FL / 2021

Going to be a fun player to watch at Central Pointe this spring. Easy athleticism, feel to hit with bat speed. A bit out in front throughout the day, but showed the feel to adjust and hit, eventually driving a double the other way. Advanced hit tool and also showed above average to plus defensive actions at short. The athleticism plays and works under control with range at short. 

Lyonel Barthelemy OF / Highlands Christian Academy, FL / 2023

Athletic frame with a simple left handed swing. Long levers with feel for the barrel. Also showed above average arm in the outfield.

 

Laheim Bell OF / Vero Beach, FL / 2022

Uncommitted 2022 from the Bahamas impressed for Vero Beach. Has a combination of size and quickness that show a lot of potential to come.

 

Jaden Burchfield 1B / OF / Key West, FL / 2021

Tall, lanky frame. Swung the bat well on Saturday with multiple hits including a double. Added multiple RBI as well. 

 

Braden Calise SS / RHP / John Carroll, FL / 2021

A standout at the ProCase, he looks noticeably more physical. Strength throughout the frame and still the present athleticism. Has shown a consistent, level compact swing and collected multiple hits Friday night. 

 

Zaid Diaz OF / LHP / Archbishop McCarthy, FL / 2023

Diaz continues to hit balls hard time and time again. Physical frame with a bat that plays from the left side. Continues to show a high offensive ceiling.

 

Christian Febus SS / OF / Central Pointe Christian, FL / 2021

Senior State Games participant continues to show an overall above average toolset. Quiet with his approach offensively with above average bat speed. A lot of tools on the uncommitted 2021 and will be a great pickup for any school. 

 

Gavin Gargiulo RHP / 1B / Coral Springs Charter , FL / 2024

Tall, athletic frame. Advanced offensively for his age. Middle of the order hitter gets on base and drives in runs time and time again.

 

Bradley Link SS / RHP / Suncoast , FL / 2023

Slender athletic frame. The athleticism really plays both offensively and on the mound. Has a chance to be a true two way guy at the next level. On the mound sat 81-83 working both corners for strikes. Inconsistent with the delivery at times but when he is on time, the arm really works.

 

Connor Manning RHP / 1B / Elite Squad Baseball Academy , FL / 2021

USF commit. Manning looked sharp Saturday for Elite Squad. Tall athletic frame with a live arm. Fastball is heavy and sits 88-91. Has shown feel and confidence for the breaking ball.

 

Joseph Montalvo RHP / SS / Central Pointe Christian , FL / 2021

Athletic two way player. Loose, live arm and has made a nice jump on the mound. 87-89 topped at 91 mph with a quality slider. A bit undersized, but moves well and athleticism leads to additional upside on both sides of the ball. 

 

Armani Newton OF / Lincoln Park Academy , FL / 2022

Athletic outfielder put his tools on display as he showed above average bat speed at the plate, as well as above average quickness on the basepaths and in the outfield.

 

Jake Nolan RHP / Vero Beach, FL / 2021

Athletic uncommitted right-hander. Quick up tempo delivery. Clean easy arm action. FB 82-83 mph. CB 70-72 mph. CH 74 mph.

 

Logan Pellicier OF / OF / Key west conchs , FL / 2021

Speedy leadoff hitters was a problem for opposing defenses. Made consistent hard contact and found his way on base all day. Used his above average quickness to steal bases and take the extra base when he could. 

 

Joel Pineiro RHP / Westminster Christian, FL / 2021

Pineiro was dominant Friday in the WarBall Westminster win. Would go 5 innings and allow no runs or hits, strike out 9 and walk one. Fastball was up to 89 and topped at 2715 rpm with late life. Slider also showed above average. 

 

Aaron Potter RHP / OF / Atlantic Coast, FL / 2021

Uncommitted right hander. Attacked the zone and pitched with confidence. Didn’t have his best stuff yet still working ahead and induced weak contact. FB 84-86 mph T87 in the 5th. CB 72-74 mph. CH 74 mph.

 

Marc Quarrie OF / Riviera Prep, FL / 2023

Strong, athletic frame catcher did a nice job behind the plate Saturday and showed upside on both sides of the ball. Was able to help his team out with a walk-off single to beat Wolfpack Elite. 

 

David Ramos C / 1B / Broward Virtual Franchise, FL / 2021

Tusculum commit. Ramos continues to hit balls hard consistently. Has shown gap to gap power and stays on the barrel consistently.

 

Luis Rujano RHP / Central Pointe Christian, FL / 2022

Electric, easy two innings of work. Strong frame, clean, low effort, sat 93-94 T95 in the first inning and 91-93 mph in the second. Arm works extremely easily. Still doesn't fully utilize the lower half, but his arm works very efficiently.  Big time. 

 

Brayden Slade C / OF / Monarch, FL / 2023

Lean, athletic frame with quick hands and level bat path. Lot to like from the speedy OF. Talented young 2024. 

 

Derek Sotolongo 3B / RHP / Harmony, FL / 2021

Uncommitted 2021. Pounded the zone consistently for strikes, working both sides of the plate. Balanced delivery with a whippy arm action. Fastball sitting 82-84 mph.

 

Anthony Tralongo 3B / C / Palm Beach Central , FL / 2024

A lot to like the athleticism and frame of the uncommitted 2024. Has shown some physicality as a freshman and will only continue to get stronger. Advanced tools offensively with above average bat speed.

 

Carlos Vega RHP / 3B / John Carroll Catholic , FL / 2021

Uncommitted 2021. Continues to put in quality outings. 83-85 that he held through 5 ⅓ innings, Allowed 0 runs on 1 hit, walked 3 and struck out 6. Stocky, strong frame, simple, clean delivery.

 

Brandon White OF / RHP / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2022

Uncommitted right-hander. Gets downhill consistently with an easy, clean delivery and can throw 3 pitches for strikes. FB up to 85 mph; sat 80-84. CB 68-70 mph. CH 72-73 mph.
