Fall Player Spotlights: Gavin Kelley

This Fall PBR Arkansas is highlighting a couple of the top uncommitted prospects from the 2023 class to a handful of talented 2025's. Today we take a look at the projectable right-hander Gavin Kelley. The Benton HS product stands at an athletic and lean 6-foot-2 and 175-pounds giving him a ton of room to add some strength and size in the future. The velocity is starting to make jumps working up into the upper 80's and pitches with extreme tilt with a longer arm action and a high glove front side. He pairs the tilted fastball with a heavy arm side fading changeup with fastball hand speed and a short breaking 11/5 curveball in the low 70's. His lean build and present athleticism (6.89 60) bode well for future velocity jumps and should be one to keep an eye on as he progresses.

Gavin Kelley: OF/RHP, (2024) Benton, AR. 6-foot-1, 170-pound proportional projectable build. Projectable in the box, Kelley clocked an exit velocity of 89 mph. (64.9 mph bat speed average). (18.0 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a short controlled stride. Bat speed is flashed above average, displays a simple upward swing plane and good extension on his high finish. He found lots of barrels with some loud contact. Up the middle line drive approach. Above average in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 87 mph; has consistent sure hands, a fluid natural exchange, and athletic rhythmic feet. Fielded the ball out front one hand with athletic movement laterally. Had a quick arm action and clean slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.0.

Gavin Kelley: OF/RHP, (2024) Benton, AR. 6-foot-1, 170-pound athletic projectable frame. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.89 60-yard dash. Fluid projectable during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 89 mph. (64.8 mph bat speed average). (18.5 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced open stance with a smooth compact load, then used a short controlled stride. Had an upward short swing plane, average efficient bat speed and high finish. He barreled up lots of balls with loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Smooth athletic from the outfield, he made throws to the infield at velocities up to 83 mph; had athletic fluid footwork, a quick natural exchange, and soft sure hands. Laterally, movements were average athletic and fielded the ball out front to the side. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a quick consistent arm action with a high ¾ slot. Athletic fluid on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle with a compact consistent arm action while showing consistent quick arm speed. Feel up-tempo type pitcher who uses some effort. Showed athletic consistent balance point and even downhill shoulders. Lands square with a clean balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 82-85 mph; has a straight fastball that shows command both sides of the plate around the zone and some deceiving action. He showed some swing and miss action and feel in the zone command on his 11/5 curveball (70-71). Shows some fading action and feel arm side control on his changeup (69-73).
