Team MN/IA/NE came away with their second victory of the 2018 Future Games, defeating Team Illinois 8-6 on Friday at Grand Park in in Westfield, Indiana. Team MN/IA/MN will look to finish out the week 3-0 when they take Team Wisconsin tomorrow at 12:45pm.

Notes from 8/3/2018 v Team Illinois

2020 RHP/OF Carter Baumler (Dowling Catholic High School, IA)

Baumler finished his two-inning outing giving up one run on two hits and a walk. Despite being hit and miss in the zone, Baumler sat 87-88 with his FB and touched 89 and 90 a few times. The BB showed 12/6 shape with slow developing action and a CH at 80. At the plate Baumler was 1-1 with two walks. High hands at the start settle to shoulder height and stay downhill to the point of contact.

2020 RHP/OF Konnor Kirchoffner (Burnsville High School, MN)

Kirchoffner got off to a fast start with a FB 87-88 and a +CH at 77-79 with heavy arm side fade that produced multiple swing and misses. Coupled with a BB at 68-71 with 11/5 tumbling action. He faded a bit in the second but powered through with a final line of three runs on three hits, 1 HBP, 1 BB, and 4 K’s (all on FB). At the Plate Kirchoffner starts with a high hand position that produces power when it can get to a level point at contact. He is 2-5 with two runs scored over two games.

2020 RHP/OF Jacob Morosko (Chanhassen High School, MN)

Morosko had one of the more impressive showings of the weekend allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. Morosko showed moxy early, reverse pitching and showing command of three pitches. Morosko has some funk in his delivery that creates deception in his delivery. The FB sat 86-88 and crept up to 89 at one point and was complimented by the CH at 77-77 with hard arm side drop as his best secondary pitch. His third pitch was a BB 68-71 with 10-4 shape that has the potential to become a + pitch. At the plate Morosko was 1-2 with two walks. He stays aggressive through the zone and has good extension through when on time for the pitch.

2020 RHP/INF Trey Frahm (Elkhorn High School, NE)

Frahm closed out the last inning of the game allowing two runs on one hit and two walks. Working from the stretch the six-footer threw primarily FB on a hard, downhill plane at 88-90 mph. The one BB thrown was 71 with 12/6 two plane shape that with consistency could develop into a decent secondary pitch. At the plate Frahm has shown a level swing through the zone that has pop to it from a strong lower half.

2020 C/LHH Cody Kelly (St. Michael-Albertville High School, MN)

Kelly has been the model of consistency to team MN/IA/NE this weekend which culminated in a 2-2 day with three RBI, a triple, and a double. Kelly has one of the most quiet and simple swings on the team. Should level starting point with the hands gets the bat into the zone quick and he extends through it well from a strong, balanced lower half. Over two games Kelly is 2-3 with four RBI and three runs scored.

2020 MIF Jack Steil (Rocori High School, MN)

Steil has a mean, downhill approach to the baseball. He loads into his lower half well which keeps him on pitches and with + control of his lower-half timing. His hands start high but settle at shoulder height. Strong hands bring the bat through the zone level with authority as he controls the barrel to contact well. Over two games Steil is 1-2, 3 BB, 2 runs scored, and the go-ahead RBI in today’s game.
