Last week’s home-and-home series between the No. 2 Parkview Panthers and No. 12 Brookwood Broncos not only brought out two incredible crowds, but some of the top committed and uncommitted talent in the state. While Parkview walked away with wins in both games, the talent put on display, by both teams, was undeniable. Here are just a portion of the players that stood out in the rivalry series:

Parkview

Jonathan French, C, Parkview, 2019
Clemson recruit. No. 7 ranked 2019 in GA, No. 4 ranked catcher in the country. At 5-foot-11, 185, French has an incredibly strong lower-half. Defensively, French shows the leadership and energy you want in a top backstop; he does a good job of blocking and does not get many opportunities to throw runners out. French keeps runners at baye with back-picks to first and shows a plus arm in between innings. A hitter that looks to do damage, French has used his short, yet powerful swing to constantly hit balls hard all over the field. Over the span of the last two games, French had three extra base hits, including a homerun to RCF. Besides his physical ability, the Clemson-bound senior plays with fierce competitiveness.

Makenzie Pate, OF, Parkview, 2019
Coastal Carolina recruit. 6-foot-1, 175 pound outfielder who shows defensively ability to match his offensive productiveness. The strongly-built right-handed hitter has the ability to flash power to his pull-side and opposite-field. Balls up in the zone seem to be where Pate does most of his damage. Using a toe-tap stride with a quiet upper-half, Pate continues to show why he can be a very interesting player for Coastal Carolina next season. Pate is an advanced athlete on the bases and in the field.

Allan Del Castillo, INF, Parkview, 2019
At 5-foot-8, 170 pounds, Castillo plays well above his stature. The uncommitted senior, who held down third base for the Panthers with ease, showed he can make plays ranging to both sides of his body, and impressed with a strong arm across that can play at multiple positions in the infield. At the plate, Castillo does not get cheated. A slightly open stance, Castillo uses every bit of his 170 pound frame. When ahead in the count, he looks to put a ball in the air, and drive it. He also showed the ability to sit back on off-speed and go where the pitch is thrown. Castillo plays the game extremely hard at all times. One of, if not the top, uncommitted kids in the state. Has the skill set and moxie to play at a very high level.

Stephen Hrustich, 1B/C, Parkview, 2020
6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Hrustich has an advanced, strong frame. The uncommitted junior has the ability and versatility to play both first base and catcher at the next level. Hrustich uses a quiet take-back at the plate and an aggressive swing. Hrustich put multiple good swings on balls that carried out the warning track. A very interesting follow.

Miles Garrett, RHP, Parkview, 2020
Garrett is a 5-foot-11, 160 pound Vanderbilt commit. The 26th ranked prospect in the GA 2020 class, Garrett shows a high level of athleticism. Fast tempo delivery with above average effort. Fastball ranged from 87 to 91, touching 92. Loose 11/5 slurve that ranged from 79 to 81. Showed an 81-82mph change-up with occasional sink.

Xander Stephens, RHP, Parkview, 2020
Georgia Southern commit. 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, thick frame. Stephens shows impressive pitchability. Commanded both sides of the plate, ability to throw off speed in any count. Works at a fast pace with a quick-tempo delivery, with above average arm speed from a ¾ slot. 87-89mph fastball with heavy sink when low in the zone. Showed two different types of breaking balls. 12/6 get-me-over curveball at 71-72mph. Used 11/5 slider as primary off-speed pitch ranging 75-78mph.

Daylon Carleton, OF, Parkview, 2021
5-foot-8, 175 pounds, stocky build, physical frame. The LHH sophomore went 4-7 over two games with 2 2B, 4 RBI. Showed timely hitting with a game-tying single. Displayed impressive bat control with his ability to spray the ball to all fields.

Brookwood

Will Mize, 3B, Brookwood, 2019
Georgia State recruit. 6-foot-2, 170 pounds. Good athlete, looks the part. Solid glove at third base. Good body control on plays on the run. Swung it very well over the two games, including a huge go-ahead 3-run homerun down the left field line. Has a good approach and hunts pitches he can do damage with. Confident player that does everything well.

Aaron Ashburn, OF, Brookwood, 2019
5-foot-9, 175 pounds, athletic build. Ashburn, a LaGrange College recruit, plays the game at a fast pace. Looks to cause havoc on the bases and uses his speed well. A RHH, Ashburn has strong hands and produces hard contact to all fields.

Alex Flood, RHP, Brookwood, 2019
Uncommitted, 6-foot-3, 180 pounds; matured lower-half. Flood uses a H3/4 arm-slot to produce a nice two-pitch-mix. Flood relies on challenging hitters with a fastball that he throws all over the zone. FB sat 81-84, touching 86. Loose 12/6 curveball was 65-68mph. Showed a changeup at 79mph, but did not throw it often. Competes well and stays the course throughout his outings.

Wesley Franklin, SS/RHP, Brookwood, 2020
Uncommitted potential two-way player. 6-foot-2, 195 pounds; athletic frame. Advanced defensive actions. Feet and hands work well together; strong arm across the infield. Makes routine plays effortlessly. Bat still catching up to glove, but has a quick swing and uses the middle of the field well. Really impressed on the mound. Came out sitting 86-89, touching 90. Had late life and decent run. Changeup had good action at 83mph. Picked up 3 K’s in two innings of relief.

Jonathan Jamie, 1B, Brookwood, 2022
At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Jamie has an advanced body type for his age. Jamie uses his strength well at the plate, by showing some impressive pop. Upright stance, aggressive load. Showed the ability to barrel pitches on the inner-half. Inside-out swing on a couple fastballs inside. Has good approach and is a tough out when down in the count. A strong player to keep an eye out for in the future.
