LA GRANGE, IL – After getting washed out yesterday, Clemente and Glenbard South battled under threatening skies on Friday, fortunately for the Wildcats the weather held off and Clemente captured the 6-5 victory over Glenbard South.

Clemente got on the board first with two runs in the first. David Gonzalez scored after a leadoff walk and Mizraim Fuentes drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and also came around to score later in the inning on a misplayed ball by the Raiders third baseman.

Glenbard south answered with three runs in the second as Clemente starting pitcher Jeremiah Figueroa struggle to find the zone. Sophomore Alex McGimpsey and senior Ethan Gasbarro came up big in the inning, both tallied RBI doubles to give the Raiders the 3-2 lead.

The Wildcats quickly responded with two more in the third. Senior catcher Steven Glochowsky had a big RBI single for Clemente.

Glenbard South would score again in the third to tie the game at four.

The top half of the fourth gave the Wildacts the lead for good as David Gonzalez and Jeremiah Figueroa would both hit solo homeruns to give Clemente a two run advantage, a huge momentum swing for Clemente.

After regaining the lead the Wildcats would go to the pen and send ace Joey Marciano out for the bottom half of the fourth. The big lefty would allow just four hits the rest of the way, striking out four to seal the victory for Clemente.

Clemente’s victory now sets up a sectional championship game with Nazareth Academy Saturday June 1.
