2023 Spring Team Preview: Goffstown
GOFFSTOWN, N.H. - It has been five years since Goffstown had a six-year run of reaching the state finals four times. Could this be the year The Grizz makes a return to the championship game it last won in 2014?
“We have a strong senior class with three years of varsity experience,” noted 10th-year head coach Adam Lawrence, who has a career record of 163-125, including five seasons at Manchester West. “We have four returning All-State players.”
Leading the way is Will Perkowski, the Division 4 Player of the Year who is committed to Southern New Hampshire. The second-rated senior first baseman in New England, who transferred in from Derryfield, is expected to lead the pitching staff as well as play first.
Ryan Strand, an outfielder committed to UMass Lowell, Braeden Lambert, a catcher signed with Merrimack, and Logan Simmons, an outfielder/left-handed pitcher, are other key players back for Goffstown.
“Offense should be a strength for us this year,” related Lawrence, who had two key losses to graduation in catcher Brayden Hollinrake, now at Clark University, and outfielder Ryan Cote, now at New England College. “Pitching will be the key to our success.”
Newcomers Ryan Dutton, a sophomore, and Noah Durham, a junior, are two players that Lawrence is counting on to make big contributions in 2023. Dutton will pitch and play outfield while Durham is a middle infielder and pitcher.
As for the league, Lawrence sees a lot of balance.
“Londonderry should be favorites with Bishop Geurtin behind them,” Lawrence pointed out. “I do expect a lot of teams to have a chance to make some noise.”
