Casey McConihe, LHP/1B, Amherst Steele, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Case Western?

McConihe:  Case Western felt like the best place for me. I like the urban campus and its location in the city. The players were great as I got to figure out from my overnight. I like how Coach Englander and the coaching staff are very straightforward.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

McConihe:  Wofford College, Oakland University, Ohio State University, Lake Erie College, Denison University, College of Wooster, Oberlin College, Kenyon College

PBR: Where did coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

McConihe:  The coaches first saw me at the Headfirst Showcase in Long Island this past summer. First Coach Englander showed interest at this showcase. The coaching staff then called me in January and I came up for a visit soon after. I then did an overnight a few weeks later.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

McConihe:  Come in as a pitcher but compete for a spot at 1B as well

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help program?

McConihe:  Defense at 1st, contact hitter, change up. I think I can add depth to the pitching staff and solidify the defense while hitting for average.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

McConihe:  I played for Northern Ohio Baseball, formally the Midwest Pelicans. This summer I'm playing for the Lake Erie Warhawks. My most memorable experience from this summer was striking out three batters in a row at the PBR showcase at Prasco Park.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

McConihe:  I didn't really know what to expect from the recruiting process as it was a first for me and my family.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

McConihe:  Hit .347 13 RBIs

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

McConihe:  Jake Miller- Northern Kentucky (Jackson High School)
