Inside the Recruitment: '16 RHP/3B Ben Bulchik commits to Walsh
August 15, 2015
Ben Bulchik, RHP/3B, Lakewood HS, Class of 2016
PBR: Why did you choose Walsh?
Bulchik: I chose Walsh because I really liked the coaches and baseball facilities. I also loved the campus feel and really felt at home there.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Bulchik: I was also considering Ohio Dominican University, Tiffin, Seton Hill, and Notre Dame College.
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
Bulchik: Coach Mead first saw me at the Diamond League Summer Showcase, and after getting me down for a visit, came and saw me multiple times in games. From there we kept in frequent contact by phone and after offering me I decided to commit.
PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team for the rest of your senior season?
Bulchik: I hope to win our new conference, the SWC, as well as to compete for a state championship.
PBR: Was the recruiting process everything that you expected?
Bulchik: The process happened very quickly as I had always imagined going into my senior year not knowing where I would go to college. However, when the schools contacted me so early I found myself excited to commit this quickly.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?
Bulchik: I played for the T3 Rays 18u, and my most memorable experience was winning the Colt regional tournament in Butler, PA.
PBR: What were your stats for last spring?
Bulchik: I hit .390 and has a 3.00 era for Lakewood last spring.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Bulchik: I would say that Max Lavisky is the toughest hitter I have faced in Ohio. His ability to hit the ball to all fields both for power and for average makes him extremely hard to get out.
